conversations] [applause] from the colby military writers symposium michael beckerman describes the change in american sentiment during the two years of the sinking of the loose in the in 1915 and the u.s. joining world war i. let s get started with the next presentation, folks. i teach military history here and i am very happy today to introduce my friend michael neilberg who is professor of history and the inaugural chair and war studies at the u.s. army war college. before that, he taught at the air force academy and then at university of southern mississippi. he writes widely on both world wars. he is recipient of numerous prizes and honors for his work such as the tomleson prize for the best english language booshgs in world war i, a book on the second battle of the mar, and the choice outstanding academic title award for fighting great war or american history. he has edited a number of important collections like arms of the man, reference works like the atlas o ....

to authors and historians to speak about what was then called the great war. we learn about the creation of the memorial to honor those who serveded and about artifacts in the museum s collection. this is about two and a half hours. 100 years ago on april 6, 1917, president woodrow wilson signeded a declaration of war against germany, entering the united states into world war i. more than 4 million american men and women would eventually serve in uniform and more than 100,000 americans died in the conflict. the influx of u.s. resources changed the tide of the years long global war bringing it to a close on november 11, 1918. to mark the 100th anniversary of what was then known as the great war, american history tv is live from the national world war i museum and memorial in kansas city, missouri. we ll be here for the next two and a half hours and we ll take you on a tour of the exhibits and involve you in conversations with top world war i historians as we learn abo ....

the senate appropriations defense subcommittee on the military s readiness and the upcoming fiscal budget. it was on the income overseas offensive and defensive abilities. many of them related to the 2011 budget control act. this is about an hour and 45 minutes. the subcommittee on defense appropriations on the united states senate will come to order. today we are receiving an update on military readiness and defense budget matters. we re pleased to welcome to the committee the honorable james m. mattis, secretary of defense. general joseph dunford jr., chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. the fiscal year 2017 department of defense appropriations agreement has been approved by the other body in the house of representatives. and i look forward to our completing work on that bill in the coming weeks. we re well into the fiscal year and members of the subcommittee understand the poepimportance o enacting appropriations. as we complete our work on the 2017 defense agree ....
