Welesley health facility will soon require vaccinations for workers


If you want to continue to work here, you will soon need to be fully vaccinated\,
That s the message the 160 or so employees of the Sisters of Charity-Halifax organization in Wellesley are hearing.
The complex, which includes Elizabeth Seton Residence and Marillac Residence, is well aware of the ferocity of COVID-19. In April and May of 2020, they lost 17 people.
The mandate to get vaccinated applies to the Sisters of Charity and all other Legacy Lifecare organizations. Legacy Lifecare manages a network of not-for-profit organizations, including Sisters of Charity 
Lori Ferrante, administrator of Sisters of Charity, said her organization was given the option of adopting the mandate, which also applies to student nurses doing their training, and volunteers. Visitors don t fall under the mandate, but unless they are fully vaccinated they must stay out of the clinical areas, wear masks, and practice social distancing. Leaders expect more providers to follow suit after first Massachusetts operator announces vaccine mandate - News


More long-term care operators in Massachusetts are expected to start mandating COVID-19 shots for all employers after one of the first major providers in the state announced its own policy for workers this week. 
“We hope our announcement will be a springboard for others,” said Adam Berman, Legacy Lifecare’s president and chief executive.
The Massachusetts-based long-term care provider operates skilled nursing facilities, traditional and memory care, assisted living residences and independent living across five campuses throughout the state. On Wednesday, officials announced they will require staff to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment, the Boston Globe first reported. The mandate will go into effect once one of the three COVID vaccines receive full federal approval, which is expected to happen this year. ....
