Supervisors extend moratorium on Solano tourist homes FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors extended its urgency moratorium Tuesday on new short-term vacation rentals until April 2023. But the board made it clear that it wants this matter settled far sooner, and set a six-month “check-in” to evaluate the staff progress. The 22-month, 15-day extension followed a public hearing during which the ongoing discussion on the topic again inspired comments of support and opposition. One caller to the virtual meeting, who identified himself as Walt Brown, threatened that he and others opposed to the moratorium will sue the county and individuals who supported the temporary prohibition. ....
Planning Commission deadlocks on Green Valley vacation home rental permit FAIRFIELD Tourist homes continue to be one of the most controversial topics that circulate in the halls of Solano County government. The Planning Commission’s 2-2 vote Thursday on whether to approve or deny a use permit for an unhosted short-term vacation rental in the Green Valley highlands is not likely to change that dynamic. In fact, the vote assures that the application by Lee Heyman and Amanda Rothstein at 4367 Edinburg Court will go to the Board of Supervisors for a decision. The commission, which has one vacancy, heard testimony from 15 speakers who opposed the use permit. ....
Vacation rental request returns to Solano Planning Commission FAIRFIELD The Solano County Planning Commission will take a second attempt Thursday at deciding whether to approve a use permit application for a short-term vacation rental on Edinburg Court in rural Green Valley. The same item was before the commission at its last meeting, but technical issues with the call-in system left the panel without a quorum. Tourist homes have been a controversial issue in Solano County, and this application by Lee Heyman and Amanda Rothstein has again drawn a line between opponents and proponents. The planning staff recommends approval of the use permit. ....
Push to limit ‘tourist homes’ in Solano strengthens FAIRFIELD An application for an unhosted short-term vacation permit is likely to see strong pushback when the Solano County Planning Commission meets Thursday. A campaign for the county to limit the so-called tourist homes, or even ban them, has been building in recent weeks. The focus right now is on an application for an unhosted vacation rental at 4367 Edinburg Court, located about 1.8 miles northwest of Fairfield. The applicants are Lee Heyman and Amanda Rothstein. “The proposed project involves use of the existing dwelling as a Vacation House Rental – Unhosted,” the staff report to the commission states. “The residence will be advertised for rent for groups of up to 10 people for 30 days or less as allowed (by county code). ....
