Hanoi (VNA) - The number of COVID-19 cases
in the
Philippines passed the milestone of 1 million on April 26 as the
infections continued to surge in the country.
The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) reported
on the day 8,929 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of
confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 1,006,428.
The death toll climbed to 16,853 after 70 more
patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.
The 1 million mark comes just over three months after ....

Laos, Thailand report big rises in new COVID-19 infections | World

Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention
and Control on April 25 announced that the country confirmed 76 new
locally-infected COVID-19 cases, including 64 cases in Vientiane capital city, lifting
the national tally to 323.
So far, 16 out of 18 Lao provinces and cities have
applied lockdown and curfew measures.
Vientiane is now said
to be the hotspot in the second wave of COVID-19 outbreaks in the country.
A representative of
the steering committee said at a press conference that all areas in Vientiane
are at risk of infection. ....

Laos enhances COVID-19 prevention measures during New Year festival

The Lao National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control has announced measures to enhance COVID-19 prevention and control during the traditional New Year festival Boun Pi May 2021.

The decision was made after Laos recorded the first community infection in mid-April.
The committee asked the Health Ministry to continue tracing suspect cases and conduct vaccination as scheduled.
The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism was required to temporarily shut down entertainment areas, karaoke parlours and eateries during the remaining days of April.
According to the committee, all F1 cases having contact with the patient No.50 tested negative. ....

Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign
direct investment (FDI) poured into the
Philippines in January grew 41.5
percent year on year to 961 million USD, according to the country’s central
bank
BSP said the
FDI increase reflects
investors optimism at the start of the year driven by the gradual reopening of
the economy under the “new normal” condition, the easing of lockdown measures,
and positive news about the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact, the Philippine economy
