And ultimately he caused this multicar crash that happened on southbound 880 near highway 237 here in milpitas. Just one lane remains closed for the investigation and the cleanup. This crash happened just before 5 00 this morning when the driver of that dark green minivan was spotted going north in the southbound lanes of 880 and ultimately the minivan slammed into four other cars. The man driving that van, again, was rushed to the hospital with major injuries and ultimately he died from those injuries. One person in another car involved in this crash was treated for minor injuries, according to the chp. And now the chp is trying to figure out why this wrongway driver got on to the freeway going in the opposite direction. Camera video which the police , chief has said shows 24yearold Sylville Smith with a gun in his hand as hes shot. The doj told us today they dont have anything new to release. Social media is running wild with information and misinformation about the confrontation between smith and the 24yearold Police Officer who shot him. Some of it includes threats against the officer, which has led to uniformed Milwaukee Police now guarding his home. Mpd tells us theyre taking the investigating. Numerous neighbors and people who know the two say the officer and smith knew each other from the neighborhood, but weve verified they did not go to high school together.
