Thomasin McKenzie will star in Perfect, directed by Olivia Wilde.
McKenzie will play Kerri Strug, an American gymnast who won Team USA’s first gold medal at the 1996 Olympics. The script is based off her book
Landing On My Feet, A Diary Of Dreams, according to
Wilde said the role would be challenging and emotional, but she said McKenzie was the perfect woman for the job.
“One reason I needed to direct movies was to work with genius women in great roles worthy of their skills,” she said.
“This story is complicated and challenging and heartbreaking and beautiful, and I could not imagine a better partner to tell it with than Thomasin. She is fearless, ladies and gentlemen. I bow down.” ....

Olivia Wilde has praised Thomasin McKenzie for being fearless after casting the actress to star as gymnast Kerri Strug in her upcoming biopic, Perfect.
Deadline reported that the director searched extensively for the right talent to lead the Searchlight film, which will tell the story of how Strug secured a gold medal for the United States at the 1996 Summer Olympics despite enduring a badly injured ankle.
Reflecting on casting 20-year-old McKenzie in the film, Wilde shared a screencap of the news to her Instagram account, noting in the caption: One reason I needed to direct movies was to work with genius women in great roles worthy of their skills. ....

Jojo Rabbit star Thomasin McKenzie has officially been tapped for the leading role in Olivia Wilde’s upcoming sports drama biopic titled
Perfect, centered around legendary gymnast Kerri Strug’s historic win at the 1996 Olympics. The film will be directed by Wilde from a script written by Ronnie Sandahl (
Borg vs McEnroe). Production will begin in January 2022.
This marks the 20-year-old New Zealand actress’s first major feature as the solo lead after her supporting performances in Taika Waititi’s acclaimed dramedy
