A YOUNG Rovers fan whose letters to Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka went viral was given a special surprise by two of his footballing heroes. Seth Frankish, 11, wrote letters of support to Rashford and Saka following their online racist abuse after England s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, which went viral on social media with people across the country praising the St Barnabas CE Primary Academy schoolboy s warm hearted words. But a greater surprise was in store for Seth, who plays as a goalkeeper for Lammack Juniors, when Blackburn Rovers number one Thomas Kaminski and defender Scott Wharton joined him in his Darwen classroom via Zoom on Friday morning. ....
ONE of Lancashire’s top athletics clubs will be paying tribute to one of their own this week following the death of Joseph Fleming. Mr Fleming, athletics coach and former Blackburn College lecturer, died peacefully at the age of 74 at Springhill Care Home in Accrington on March 30, after having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia some time ago. He leaves a legacy as a dedicated and inspirational coach at Blackburn Harriers Athletic Club, who will be paying tribute to their departed colleague with a clap in his memory on Thursday, as well as at Hyndburn Athletic Club and Lammack Juniors FC. ....

Lammack FC is giving school children in Blackburn the chance to design its new football kit. For the first time ever, Lammack Juniors has donated its kit sponsorship to East Lancashire Hospice, whose logo will be displayed on the players shirts for the next three years. The sponsorship would normally cost £7,000. To celebrate the kind gesture, the team has launched a competition for local pupils to dream up the new design, which must feature the hospice s logo and the team colours of red, white and blue. Ian Jones, Chairperson for Lammack FC, said: “For some years we have been lucky to have a commercial sponsor for our kit and when the discussion started recently about who we should approach next, we decided to think outside of the box by offering the kit sponsorship to a local charity to provide them with valuable exposure within our community. ....
