Darwen: Elektec wins Blackburn with Darwen Mayoral Award

AN ELECTRICAL contractors company has been presented with a mayoral award for its outstanding contribution to the local community.
This comes thanks to Darwen-based Elektec s work during the pandemic providing free portable appliance testing to places of worship, charities, including Blackburn Youth Zone, and companies that work in the community s interest throughout the borough.
As such Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Cllr Derek Hardman said the firm is hugely deserving of the honour.
He said: “I was delighted to award Elektec with Mayoral award, it was great to visit them to hear about the support our youth have received at Blackburn Youth Zone from this company. ....

AN ELECTRICAL contractors firm has announced that they will sponsoring their local U12 s football team next season.
From the beginning of next season, AFC Darwen s U12 s Junior Football Club will be sponsored by Elektec, based on Tower View in Darwen, who will be doing so in the name of East Lancashire Hospice.
The company will be taking over from the Anchor Road based club s previous sponsor Gareth Mayoh, whose sons Tom and Jack became well known as the boys in shorts by raising funds for the hospice which cared for their mother Louise. ....

Longshaw Junior School pupils raise money in memory of teaching assistant

A SCHOOL has raised money for a teaching assistant who lost her life to melanoma this year.
Longshaw Junior School in Blackburn asked the children to dress in white or something shiny last Friday to honour the memory of Lynn White, who was a teaching assistant for year six.
The school raised £750 for East Lancashire Hospice, where Miss White was cared for.
She diagnosed with melanoma in October and died on February 17.
Deputy Headteacher at the school, Jonathan Berry said: “She was the beating heart of our school.
“She changed a lot of children’s lives for the better and was a great example to all of us. ....
