. good evening. i m john sasaki. ken and heather are off tonight. an east bay family is starting the new year without a home after their christmas tree went up in flames. ktvu s christina rendon is live in the newsroom with more on the moment a 6-year-old boy noticed something was wrong. reporter: well, the mother we spoke with says two of her three children were home, when one of them, a 6-year-old, smelled smoke. he immediately found his older sister and the two ran for help. all of the things that made this antioch house are home are either salvaged in the driveway or in a pile in the front yard. the mother of three didn t think she would lose nearly everything when she left for work this morning. i really don t know what to say. i m at a loss for words right now. reporter: her son jeremiah smelled smoke coming from the christmas tree and he and his sister ran for help. when me and my sister looked back at the christmas tree, in the middle it was fire. reporter
