Scranton Jewish Community Center litigating with property buyers over alleged unauthorized construction

SCRANTON – A religious community center in Scranton is pursuing an injunction over construction taking place on the site of its summer camp, charging that the unapproved construction violates the terms of a 2005 property sale agreement that the defendants pledged to abide by.
The Jewish Community Center of Scranton filed suit in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas on April 19 versus Michael Hatala of Old Forge, and Dominick Policare and The Childrens Free Campground Facilities Foundation, both of Wyoming, Pa.
In December 2005, the JCC entered into an agreement with defendants Hatala and Policare for the sale of the property at issue, 100 acres of land in Covington Township, located in Lackawanna County. Four parcels of that land were sold in the deal for $500,000. ....

Scranton plaintiffs say water company's negligence led to water infiltration inside their home and wife's fall

SCRANTON – A Scranton couple allege that negligent maintenance of their water pipes later led to the wife-plaintiff falling inside their residence and suffering serious injuries.
Doreen C. Ozovek and Jeffrey P. Ozovek of Scranton filed suit in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas on April 22 versus Pennsylvania American Water, Pennsylvania American-Water Company and Pennsylvania American Water Company (doing business as “American Water Works, Co., Inc.”), all of Hershey.
“The defendants sometime prior to June 3, 2020, were engaged in the business of flushing a fire hydrant and/or flushing water lines and/or repairing water lines and/or installing water lines outside the residence owned and occupied by the plaintiffs,” the suit states. ....

Carbondale woman's death the result of professional medical negligence, her estate alleges in suit

SCRANTON – The estate of a Carbondale woman alleges professional negligence on the part of a local hospital, physician and nurse practitioner led to her death from cardiac arrest two years ago.
James A. Zaltauskas, Administrator of the Estate of Sandra J. Skotleski and the Estate itself of Carbondale filed suit in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas on April 20 versus Community Medical Center (doing business as “Geisinger Community Medical Center”), Wilson Young, M.D. and John Zaic Jr., CRNP, all of Scranton.
“Skotleski was admitted to Community Medical Center (doing business as ‘Geisinger Community Medical Center’) on or about March 26, 2019 with exertional shortness of breath for a few weeks associated with retrosternal chest pain and lower abdominal pain. Tripping hazard in Viewmont Mall Mexican eatery leads to damages request


SCRANTON - A Mexican restaurant in the Scranton Viewmont Mall faces a personal injury payout after a Peckville woman says she was injured tripping on the restaurant s doormat, according to documents filed March 1 in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas. 
Plaintiff Ann Marie Kolcharno visited La Tonalteca in August 2019 with her husband, when she allegedly tripped over an old, dilapidated doormat with edges that did not lay flat at the restaurant s front entry. 
The lawsuit says that the condition of the mat and the tripping hazard are not made immediately aware to guests of the restaurant. 
As a result, Kolcharno complains that she fractured a lower extremity, suffered many head lacerations and aggravated preexisting conditions. ....
