it is election day in america. hello everyone i m anderson cooper welcome to our viewers in the united states and around the world. you are looking at live pictures of voters lining up to cast their ballots. polls are open in a majority of states. at this hour six more states are opening their doors to voters. the big question who will control congress. dozens of house races are considered toss ups, republicans need to win 30 competitive seats to win the majority. in the senate the race is likely to determine control are very tight. republicans need a net gain of one seat to clinch the majority from democrats. more than 40 million americans have cast their ballots in early voting ahead of today. it all comes down to turnout today and the issues. the only certainty is that voters will decide who they elect and who controls congress. we have this consequential midterm election covered for you from coast to coast. i want to begin with our coverage with cnn s jason carr ....
by that suspect were staffed predominantly by people of asian descent. all but one of the women killed were of asian descent. the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody late last night. he was charged today with eight counts of murder. law enforcement says he has admitted to the shootings. police say he told them he has a sex addiction and that s why he says he killed all those women working in those spas, because he wanted to eliminate his temptation for his addiction or something. police say in talking with the suspect, he gave them no indication that the killings were racially motivated, even if they did predominantly target asian women. a police captain in the cherokee county sheriff s department, cherokee county is where the first shooting took place. when he discussed the suspect s explanation for the shooting, he told reporters it was because the suspect was having a, quote, bad day yesterday. that s what he said. as if that was an explanation for why the ....
president biden traveling to pennsylvania tomorrow as part of his administration s week-long tour to introduce americans to his nearly $2 trillion rescue plan saying his goal is to get 100 million vaccine doses in people s arms and 100 million relief checks in people s pockets. checks began arriving over the weekend. the president also announcing that gene sperling, a former top economic official in the clinton and obama administrations will oversee the massive spending in the new law. so joining me now, cnn white house correspondent, john harwood and senior political analyst, kirsten powers. so big promises, 100 million shots, 100 million checks in pockets. all in the next ten days. how will he get this done? that s a lot. well, the truth is those promises sound a lot bigger than they actually are. remember, joe biden came into the presidency promising 100 million vaccine doses in 100 days. that s the rate of a million a day. we were approaching when he came into off ....
