The most seriously injured are being evacuated to the capital, port-au-prince. as joe johns reports, they have terrible stories to tell. reporter: the helicopter convoy bringing the most seriously injured from the earthquake zone to port-au-prince, haiti, running from sunup to sundown. today they re greeted by a surgeon, a broken bone specialist, who quickly evaluates their condition. the 7.2-magnitude earthquake left more than 2,000 people dead and over 12,000 people injured, causing hospitals in haiti to be completely overwhelmed. a short distance by air from la caille to port-au-prince, but getting here can be a slow process. this 23-month-old girl suffered a laceration running from thigh to ankle in saturday s earthquake. when she finally was flown into the capital, her leg was badly infected. took a long time to get her here. ....
Fred, now just an area of low pressure, is moving into the gulf of mexico. that s going to affect the u.s. by monday. grace first that has the biggest impact on the recovery efforts in haiti. it s moving about as fast as an olympic sprinter, 26 miles an hour to the west. hurricane hunter planes went in, found the winds weren t as strong, down to 40 from 45 miles an hour earlier today, but it s bringing squally weather to places like st. vincent and guadeloupe, and now that weather will be heading for puerto rico and the u.s. and british virgin islands tomorrow. they re under a tropical storm warning, in blue. in yellow, you see parts of the dominican republic are under a tropical storm watch. haiti not under a watch yet, but that will likely change either late tonight or tomorrow. and as far as the winds, when this storm gets to haiti, it could have 60-mile-an-hour winds. along with heavy rain. where the epicenter of the earthquake was, la caille, they ....
