The Highland baseball and softball teams travel to Letts tonight to meet Louisa-Muscatine in conference action. Highland softball is 3-1 on the year, having swept a doubleheader against Hillcrest Academy Tuesday and beaten Lone Tree 17-0 on Thursday after a season opening loss Monday to West Burlington. Against the rival Lady Lions, the Huskies pounded out 15 hits for their 17 runs with Payton Brun and Abbi Stransky each posting three hits and three RBI. Mackinze Hora also drove in three. Grace Batcheller pitched three innings and allowed just one hit in the win. Louisa-Muscatine is 1-1 on the season after falling to class 5A Pleasant Valley 7-0 in their opener and beating Winfield-Mt. Union 7-0. A delayed start to the season finally started up for the Highland basketball teams on Tuesday night and the Huskies were swept in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader with Louisa-Muscatine. The Highland girls got out to a rough start trailing 16-7 after one, 34-15 at the break, and could never find their footing in a 58-34 defeat. The Falcons’ (4-1) Kylee Sanders was too much to slow down, as the senior tallied a game-high 24 points and six steals. Highland shot just 26% from the floor and were led by Dani Laughlin with 14 points. Sarah Burton added nine points in her freshman debut and Kayla Cerny added 10 rebounds. ....

With 24 points, Falcon senior Kylee Sanders finished slightly below her season average of 29 points per game, but it was still enough for L-M to leave with a 59-33 victory. Sophomore Dani Laughlin had 14 points and five steals for Highland, who was playing in its first game of the season while the Falcons were on their fifth. Highland coach Jody Fink said the delayed start was not ideal, but it was good for his young team to finally get out on the court again and get some of the first-game jitters out. ....
