After use plummeted during the pandemic, micromobility trips are rapidly rising prompting questions about whether more devices and companies will be allowed to enter the City. Shared mobility trips across the City have doubled since the start of the year, going from 44,799 trips in January to 88,023 trips in April. In popular areas like Downtown, numbers have tripled. While these rates remain well below the peak of 343,359 trips reached in August 2019, there is a clear trend of rebounding e-bike and e-scooter use. As the City’s shared mobility pilot program is scheduled to expire at the end of June, residents can expect to see a shake up of both the number and variety of device options. ....
Delivery bots get green light to serve city Apr. 30, 2021 at 6:00 am Robot deliveries will be seen throughout town as soon as next month after Council voted to increase the operation area of delivery robots citywide. “If you remember, last summer, a company called COCO started operating remote-controlled, delivery robots for goods and food delivery services in the city. At the time, and still today, the City did not have a regulatory structure or a specific permit for these types of delivery services be they autonomous remote-controlled,” Senior Transportation Planner Kyle Kozar said, noting the lack of knowledge led Council to place a moratorium on autonomous delivery robots last October. However, Council directed staff to allow remote control delivery robots to operate as part of the Zero Emission Delivery Zone pilot program, which launched in January of this year, to test and understand these new services. ....

The delivery zone will provide priority access to zero-emissions delivery vehicles, including electric vans, e-cargo scooters and remote-controlled small delivery bots, within certain loading zones. Curb management company Automotus technology will help monitor and analyze vehicle activity within the zone, collecting anonymized data to evaluate the effect on congestion, emissions, efficient deliveries, safety and more.
