Alyx lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines at the intersection of 13th street and jefferson avenue. Police say that lopez have been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. This is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. Now to another saturday morning homicide a des moines man came faceface with a suspected murderer, but didnt even know it. Brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. West des moines firefighters are on scene of a house fire that injured one of their own. Neighbors called 911 just after 330 this morning to report a fire at 6531 bradford drive. When crews got there, they say flames had fully engulfed the two story house. The citys fire marshall says with the frigid temperatures and strong winds, the fire spread quickly which made it difficult to contain. While trying to protect the gas line, a chunk of the home fell on top of one of the firefighters and medics had to rush him to the hospital with nonlife threatening during the operation, a firefighter was on the outside of the building, the structure started collapsing an outside wall fell and hit him. Dont have a condition he was talking when they took him the hospital. Firefighters say the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. The house is a total loss.
