alyx: lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines at the intersection of 13th street and jefferson avenue. police say that lopez have been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to another saturday morning homicide a des moines man came face-face with a suspected murderer, but didn't even know it. brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: sean says that his neighbor found a man who fell on the sidewalk year. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when he came over here. rose: he got a wrap for the man's head and called 911. >> then he was arrested. rose: the man turned out to be brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say that he shot gino was ola several times within automatic gun. the victim later died at the hospital, making it their first homicide since 1977. >> this is a safe place, that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident. rose: when he found mcguinness, sean never felt like he was in danger, making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight? 2020, i guess. we didn't know. we just tried to help a guy. alyx: right now police are not saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. also new this morning. des moines police responded to a report of shots fired. early this morning. this time at evolution nightclub. officers were called for multiple shots fired on northwest 6th drive. at this point we have not heard if anyone was hit. or any building. we'll bring you the latest information throughout the morning. more big stories this morning, newton police have made 3 arrests after a casey's store was robbed at gunpoint wednesday. 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now over to fort dodge where 18-year-old onterrail altman junior is in the webster county jail after an overnight chase with police. around 4:30 saturday morning police went to a home on 6th avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving, they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. he ran from the car but was caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a weapon. time now, just before 5:05, for the weather. frank, is the clicker working? [laughter] a lot of people are saying -- donald, you are the most amazing guy. you are brilliant, your handsome, you're rich, you have everything going. the world is waiting for you to be president, so why are you hosting "saturday night live"? the answer is, i really have nothing better to do. the show has been a disaster for me. look at this guy. trump impersonator: great, great, great, fantastic. [applause] i've got to say, you are doing a great job. the show just got better by about 2,000,000,000%. donald, they just told me it's very interesting, but now that i'm here this is the best monologue in snl history. trump: that is pretty good. [laughter] alyx: not one, not two, but three donald trump's. but his appearance is angering some people so much they protested in manhattan. >> america is under attack we fight back. alyx: dozens marched from trump tower to rockefeller center in manhattan, where saturday night live tapes. hispanic groups say they are protesting trump's hardline stance against illegal immigration and some of his alleged derogatory statements about mexicans and other groups. the negative attention hasn't seemed to affect trump. he said earlier this week that it would work for him predicting that his appearance would be one of snl's highest rated shows. >> he promised for the whole rack and's -- going to brag and say he's the best at anything. trump: that's right, and i'm going to do the best job anyone has ever done not saying it. alyx: he told fox news that he made sure that some sketches were left on the floor and he doesn't want to upset caucus goers. in other news, hillary clinton spoke at an event on saturday night about her support of the lgbt community. the event was a dinner hosted by a south carolina gay rights organization. clinton attended the equality dinner in columbia. clinton: i want to ask you not to forget how much work still lies ahead. the work isn't finished until every single person is treated with equal rights and dignity, no matter where they live. alyx: she also reiterated her support for the federal equality we are counting down the days until the second democratic principle -- democratic presidential debate, cohosted by kcci. we are less than a nightclub fire. the death toll in bucharest now sits at 41. the fire occurred last saturday during a heavy metal concert, when a spark from a fireworks show ignited foam decor. 180 people were injured when people fled for the only exit in a stampede. people are now blaming a lack of government safety standards for the deadly blaze. the prime minister and his cabinet resigned this week after mass protests. also overseas, russian and egyptian emergency workers laid floral tributes at the crash site for the victims of the metrojet crash. the crash happened last weekend in the sinai peninsula. while examination around the crash site continues, serviceman for both countries laid flowers on the wreckage of the plane. everyone on board the russian airplane was killed. this morning we have learned of jill wagner reports. jill: the cockpit voice recorder from the russian airplane that crashed in the sinai desert one week ago has revealed critical clue. >> of noise was heard the last seconds of the physical recording. >> investigators are in life is to determine if the midair explosion was caused by a bomb or mechanical problem. investigators believe that the plane broke apart at a high-altitude, but what caused it remains a mistress. crews have yet to recover all pieces of the plane. the egyptian government has launched an investigation into the staff and ground crew, reports in august, but no one was injured in that incident. back here at home. new this morning. des moines police have arrested a teen in connection to friday night's homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it happened around. at the intersection of 13th st and year. now to saturday morning's homicide. around 1:30 police say brendan mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on southeast carefree lane. saturday afternoon good samaritans found mcguinness just hours later in east des moines. residents near 28th and capitol avenue say they found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk. one neighbor says mcguinness was barely conscious and bleeding from the head. that man called 911, not knowing the man was a suspected murderer. >> it was strange. i was over here sitting here and this guy came over and we heard it interference with a weapon. to hancock county now a former member of the iowa state patrol will face trial next month in a child pornography case after withdrawing his guilty plea. 66-year-old david hubbard, of garner, is set to stand trial december 2. police found two photos and one video involving a minor in november 2013. hubbard retired from the iowa state patrol in 2004 after serving 30 after hip surgery, our hometown olympic star lolo jones is back practicing. she posted a video on instagram saying, quote, my first time over hurdles since hip surgery. in less than a year i need to be the fastest to become the olympic champ but i can't even run right now. the 2016 games are in rio de janeiro, brazil. in other news. university of iowa is providing students with a third dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine to combat the spread of mumps on campus. the numbers of mumps cases has climbed to more than 100. the university and the johnson county health department are offering free vaccinations next week to combat the spread. they've ordered 3,000 doses of the vaccine. there are usually only 10 to 20 cases reported a year statewide. new information in the fight against the bird flu outbreak that forced the destruction of more than 31 million chickens and turkeys in iowa. the iowa department of agriculture has lifted the quarantines on all 72 infected farms. ripple meaning all those farms can start restocking the chickens and turkeys that were destroyed. the usda says most infected farms in other states also have been cleared to restock. still ahead on treatment. a new experimental therapy appears to have cured a baby with leukemia. tina kraus reports from london. >> one-year-old laila richards has no trace of leukemia left in her body. months after they said that she had no chance to survive. ashley richardson said that she begged specialists to try anything to save the little girl. >> she was laughing, so week before the treatment. it was horrible, horrible. >> doctors at the children's hospital in london gave her a new, experimental genetic therapy that had only been used in mice. the treatment manipulates the immune cells to target the cancel cells. she also had a bone marrow transplant to replace her entire blood in the immune system. to early to tell if other patients will respond the same way that she did. >> it worked bit. alyx: new this morning des , moines police have arrested a teen in connection to the friday night homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. socop was apprehended just before 10:30 saturday night. >> all i heard was a pop, pop, pop. gunshots and that was it. alyx: des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it happened around 10:30 friday night at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to the saturday morning homicide a des moines man came , face-to-face with a suspected murderer, but didn't even know it. brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: shawn, who asked us not to use his last name, says his neighbor found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk here at 28th st and capitol ave. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when we came over here. didn't speak to us at all, so yea, he was out of it. rose: shawn got a rag for the man's bleeding head and called 911. >> within about ten seconds, they had him up on his feet and arrested him. the man turned out to be 42-year-old brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a waukee homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say around 1:30 a.m. mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on se carefree lane. hospital, making it the waukee 's first homicide since 1977. >> waukee is a safe place to live. that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident and in no way does it reflect on the community or its people. rose: when shawn found mcguinness, he says he never felt he was in danger. making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight, yea, 20/20, yea, it's kind of crazy they said armed and dangerous when i looked him up later. we didn't know. we were just trying to help the guy. alyx: right now, police are not saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. also new this morning des moines , police responded to a report of shots fired this time at , evolution nightclub. officers were called for multiple shots fired on northwest 6th drive. at this point we have not heard if anyone or anything was hit. we'll bring you the latest information throughout the morning. more big stories this morning, newton police have made 3 arrests after a casey's store was robbed at gunpoint wednesday. 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now over to fort dodge where 18-year-old onterrail altman junior is in the webster county jail after an overnight chase with police. around 4:30 saturday morning police went to a home on 6th , avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving. they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading , police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. police say he then ran but was caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a newsroom at cole county deputies have responded to an investigation outside evolution nightclub. it is located on sixth drive. it has turned into a homicide investigation. pulp county deputies arrived on the scene around 1:30 after hearing there was a fight. he found a victim with a gunshot wound and the victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. the victor has been identified as deshawn smith. three other victims of gunshot wounds have showed up at other hospitals. we brought you the story earlier this morning, not knowing if anyone was hit. this is breaking news into our hillary stole it. what do you expect this time around? fernando: i think she has tremendous momentum, good news not just from the debate but on i think you will probably see bernie sanders be much more aggressive, less deferential. martin o'malley, who has not caught traction really so far, i think he has to make a big statement through his presence in order to really get some more attention. i think the fireworks will fly. the stakes are getting higher and it should make for a very interesting evening. alyx: turning to your show, ellis a little bit about your background and how it will play into the show. fernando: i am a historian by training but it had experiences across the board in business, politics, and technology. for the last almost decade i have written for newspapers, done the national radio show, and i am very much engaged with the day to day of politics. i am also quite interested in the bigger picture, what is the context. i believe america is at a crossroads and the people that we elect are so critical in this cycle that we really need to understand the real issues that are impacting our country. i hope to bring all that experience to bear in this new show. alyx: a.m., a homicide investigation. the latest incident heating the city and what we know about the victim. good morning, everyone. thank you for choosing us to start your day on kcci 8 news this morning weekend. it is now 7:00 on sunday, october 8. we will take a look at the weather. frank: we sit at 35 in the 35 the current temperature in des moines. this is our airport skycam. clear skies, went out of the south at about eight miles per hour. a crisp morning. a warm day for this time of year. by this afternoon, 59 degrees. our sunset is at 5:00. 8 day forecast, we have some rain. alyx: now to that breaking news, polk county deputies are investigating a homicide this morning. they responded to shots fired at evolution nightclub just before 2:00 a.m., and when they arrived they heard multiple gunshots around the club. a gunshot victim was identified deputies received information that three other gunshot victims showed up at des moines hospitals shortly after. their names have not been released. deputies are currently investigating. new this morning, des moines police have arrested a teenager in connection with a homicide. >> all i heard was a pop, pop, pop. gunshots and that was it. alyx: des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it happened around 10:30 friday night at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to another saturday morning homicide, a des moines man came face-to-face with a suspected murderer, but didn't even know it. brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: shawn, who asked us not to use his last name, says his neighbor found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk here at 28th st and capitol ave. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when we came over here. didn't speak to us at all, so yea, he was out of it. rose: shawn got a rag for the man's bleeding head and called 911. >> within about ten seconds, they had him up on his feet and arrested him. rose: the man turned out to be 42-year-old brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a waukee homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say around 1:30 a.m. mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on se carefree lane. risola later died at the hospital, making it waukee's first homicide since 1977. >> waukee is a safe place to live. that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident and in no way does it reflect on the community or its people. rose: when shawn found mcguinness, he says he never felt he was in danger. making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight, yea, 20/20, yea, it's kind of crazy they said armed and dangerous when i looked him up later. we didn't know. we were just trying to help the guy. alyx: right now police are not , saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. we are going to switch gears over to newton. we do have a robbery that occurred there and that is one of your big stories. police have made three arrests after a casey's store was robbed at gunpoint wednesday. 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now over to fort dodge where 18-year-old onterrail altman junior is in the webster county jail after an overnight chase with police. around 4:30 saturday morning police went to a home on 6th , avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving. they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. he then ran from the card that was later caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a weapon. time now, 7:05 on your sunday morning. we will take a look at the forecast. frank: it is a live which is evolution nightclub. deputies heard multiple gunshots coming from the area around the club. they located a then shop -- gunshot wound victim who was transferred to the hospital and later died. polk county deputies received information that three other gunshot victims had shown up to local hospitals shortly after. detectives are on scene now as that investigation is ongoing, and we are currently speaking with them on scene. coming up, the new half-hour interview and discussion show, "matter of fact with fernando espuelas," launches this weekend. fernando espuelas is live in washington, d.c.. fernando what are your plans for , your trip to iowa later this week? fernando: i am going to be out and about. we will have opportunities to speak to voters and get a feel of what is going on at this critical time about 90 days or so before the caucus. alyx: we are going to move into that debate, hillary won the last debate and went ahead in the polls. what do you expect this time around? fernando: clearly, mrs. clinton has to show that she was not just a one debate wonder, as they say. that she actually can sustain what is going to be a much harder debate. the expectations were very low last time and they are very high also you have senator sanders, who has shifted gears and is being much more forceful in criticizing secretary clinton. i think it will be an interesting debate, and certainly the stakes are very high. alyx: turning to your show, tell us a little bit about your background and how it will play a role in your show. fernando: i am a historian by education but have worked in a variety of different aspects of media, most recently as a newspaper writer and radio host. issues and less interested in the day today, who scored points but rather, what are the actual candidates' plans to fix some need to be fixed. we will just not only have the big names and experts, but also will look deeper into specific issues each week that hopefully will give greater insight to our viewers as to what is happening in washington. alyx: fernando espuelas live in washington, d.c. the debut launches on 8.2 5:00 p.m. right now, authorities in romania say 9 more people have died with burn-related injuries in last week's nightclub fire. the death toll in bucharest now sits at 41. the fire occurred last saturday during a heavy metal concert, when a spark from a fireworks show ignited foam decor. 180 people were injured when people fled for the only exit in a stampede. people are now blaming a lack of government safety standards for the deadly blaze. the prime minister and his cabinet resigned this week after mass protests. also overseas, russian and egyptian emergency workers laid floral tributes at the crash site for the victims of the metrojet crash. the crash happened last weekend while examination around the crash continues, servicemen from both countries laid flowers around the wreckage. everyone on board the russian airplane was killed. this morning we have learned of a major development into the investigation. jill wagner reports jill: the cockpit voice recorder from the russian airplane that crashed in the sinai desert a week ago has revealed a critical clue. >> a noise was heard in the last second of the cvr recording . jill: investigators are analyzing the noise to determine if the mid-air explosion was caused by a bomb or mechanical problem. investigators believe the plane broke apart at high altitude, but what caused it remains a mystery. crews have yet to recover all pieces of the plane. the egyptian government has launched an investigation into the airport staff and ground crew. reports quoting unnamed british officials said security footage from the airport showed lax the security here when we -- >> the security here when we arrived on wednesday was atrocious. jill: but days after the tragedy, security at the sharm el sheikh airport is on high alert. thousands of frustrated tourists from russia and britain have been waiting at the airport for days to go home. both countries suspended flights to the region this week. those able to get a flight home to russia were told to leave their luggage behind. workers laid red flowers at the crash site to remember the 224 people who died in the catastrophic crash. jill wagner, cbs news. alyx: british media is reporting that an egyptian rocket came weapon. two hancock county now, a former member of the iowa state patrol will face trial next month in a child pornography case after withdrawing his guilty plea. 66-year-old david hubbard, of garner, is set to stand trial december 2. police found two photos and one video involving a minor in november 2013. hubbard retired from the iowa state patrol in 2004 after serving 30 years. still ahead on gun technique. this is more serious than people think. it could be for medical reasons or maybe just to look at her. what to look for is my question. >> a lot of people know already because they have been told by their dentist or hygienist that they have it. people start to get a little sensitivity at the gum line and realize their gums are pulling away a little bit. it is the most sensitive area on the tooth. if that gum recedes below that or above that, it really does create quite a bit of sensitivity. people usually know if they have a little bit of recession and if alyx: it can be for cosmetic reasons or by necessity. >> they say it sometimes can be the beginning of the end of the tooth when the gums recede. people are very prone to get cavities in those areas. alyx: tell us a little bit about this technique, how it works, how long the recovery process is . >> what is wonderful about it is that it is very minor, compared to what we used to do. it is very simple. we make a little opening above the gums and shimmy everything down. it used to be that we had to take a graft from the palette and take some of that tissue off the pallet and then so it on to that area. a lot of times it did not work we kind of bucket in with the gums come together with the teeth and use a little bit of collagen -- tuck it in with the gums -- where the gums come together with the teeth and use a little bit of collagen. it takes a little bit of time but it is not painful to the patient, and the recovery is really simple. people eat pretty normally the next day and do not take very much investigating a homicide this morning. deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 4397 northwest 6th drive, which is evolution nightclub just before 2:00 a.m. when deputies arrived they heard multiple gunshots coming from the area around the club. this is a live picture you are looking at now. officers located a gunshot wound victim who was identified as 20-year-old dashwan e. smith of des moines. he was transported to the hospital, where he later died. there were three other people injured as well. >> there is multiple shell casings found on the scene and we are currently processing all that evidence. polk county detectives along with dci are working together to alyx: while investigating, polk county deputies were able to get more information about three other gunshot wound victims that had shown up to local hospitals. deputies are urging the public for help. if you have any information about the shootings, please call the police. as we wrap things up, let's take a final alyx: lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines at the intersection of 13th street and jefferson avenue. police say that lopez have been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to another saturday morning homicide a des moines man came face-face with a suspected murderer, but didn't even know it. brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: sean says that his neighbor found a man who fell on the sidewalk year. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when he came over here. rose: he got a wrap for the man's head and called 911. >> then he was arrested. rose: the man turned out to be brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say that he shot gino was ola several times within automatic gun. the victim later died at the hospital, making it their first homicide since 1977. >> this is a safe place, that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident. rose: when he found mcguinness, sean never felt like he was in danger, making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight? 2020, i guess. we didn't know. we just tried to help a guy. alyx: right now police are not saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. also new this morning. des moines police responded to a report of shots fired. early this morning. this time at evolution nightclub. officers were called for multiple shots fired on northwest 6th drive. at this point we have not heard if anyone was hit. or any building. we'll bring you the latest information throughout the morning. more big stories this morning, newton police have made 3 arrests after a casey's store was robbed at gunpoint wednesday. 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now over to fort dodge where 18-year-old onterrail altman junior is in the webster county jail after an overnight chase with police. around 4:30 saturday morning police went to a home on 6th avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving, they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. he ran from the car but was caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a weapon. time now, just before 5:05, for the weather. frank, is the clicker working? [laughter] a lot of people are saying -- donald, you are the most amazing guy. you are brilliant, your handsome, you're rich, you have everything going. the world is waiting for you to be president, so why are you hosting "saturday night live"? the answer is, i really have nothing better to do. the show has been a disaster for me. look at this guy. trump impersonator: great, great, great, fantastic. [applause] i've got to say, you are doing a great job. the show just got better by about 2,000,000,000%. donald, they just told me it's very interesting, but now that i'm here this is the best monologue in snl history. trump: that is pretty good. marched from trump tower to rockefeller center in manhattan, where saturday night live tapes. hispanic groups say they are protesting trump's hardline stance against illegal immigration and some of his alleged derogatory statements about mexicans and other groups. the negative attention hasn't seemed to affect trump. he said earlier this week that it would work for him predicting that his appearance would be one of snl's highest rated shows. >> he promised for the whole rack and's -- going to brag and say he's the best at anything. trump: that's right, and i'm going to do the best job anyone has ever done not saying it. alyx: he told fox news that he made sure that some sketches were left on the floor and he doesn't want to upset caucus goers. in other news, hillary clinton spoke at an event on saturday night about her support of the lgbt community. the event was a dinner hosted by a south carolina gay rights organization. clinton attended the equality dinner in columbia. clinton: i want to ask you not to forget how much work still lies ahead. the work isn't finished until every single person is treated with equal rights and dignity, no matter where they live. alyx: she also reiterated her support for the federal equality we are counting down the days until the second democratic principle -- democratic presidential debate, cohosted by kcci. we are less than a nightclub fire. the death toll in bucharest now sits at 41. the fire occurred last saturday during a heavy metal concert, when a spark from a fireworks show ignited foam decor. 180 people were injured when people fled for the only exit in a stampede. people are now blaming a lack of government safety standards for the deadly blaze. the prime minister and his cabinet resigned this week after mass protests. also overseas, russian and egyptian emergency workers laid floral tributes at the crash site for the victims of the metrojet crash. the crash happened last weekend in the sinai peninsula. while examination around the crash site continues, serviceman for both countries laid flowers on the wreckage of the plane. everyone on board the russian airplane was killed. this morning we have learned of jill wagner reports. jill: the cockpit voice recorder from the russian airplane that crashed in the sinai desert one week ago has revealed critical clue. >> of noise was heard the last seconds of the physical recording. >> investigators are in life is to determine if the midair explosion was caused by a bomb or mechanical problem. investigators believe that the plane broke apart at a high-altitude, but what caused it remains a mistress. crews have yet to recover all pieces of the plane. the egyptian government has launched an investigation into the staff and ground crew, reports from unnamed british official saying that security footage shows a lack of security. >> security when we arrived was atrocious. >> days after the tragedy security is now on high alert. thousands of in august, but no one was injured in that incident. back here at home. new this morning. des moines police have arrested a teen in connection to friday night's homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it happened around. at the intersection of 13th st and barely conscious and bleeding from the head. that man called 911, not knowing the man was a suspected murderer. >> it was strange. i was over here sitting here and this guy came over and we heard it hubbard, of garner, is set to stand trial december 2. police found two photos and one video involving a minor in november 2013. hubbard retired from the iowa state patrol in 2004 after serving 30 after hip surgery, our hometown olympic star lolo jones is back practicing. she posted a video on instagram saying, quote, my first time over hurdles since hip surgery. in less than a year i need to be the fastest to become the olympic champ but i can't even run right now. the 2016 games are in rio de janeiro, brazil. in other news. university of iowa is providing students with a third dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine to combat the spread of mumps on campus. the numbers of mumps cases has climbed to more than 100. the university and the johnson county health department are offering free vaccinations next week to combat the spread. they've ordered 3,000 doses of the vaccine. there are usually only 10 to 20 cases reported a year statewide. new information in the fight against the bird flu outbreak that forced the destruction of more than 31 million chickens and turkeys in iowa. the iowa department of agriculture has lifted the quarantines on all 72 infected farms. ripple meaning all those farms can start restocking the chickens and turkeys that were destroyed. the usda says most infected farms in other states also have been cleared to restock. still ahead on one out there a few haven't been outside yet. iowa falls, 33. definitely going to need a jacket out there this morning. satellite radar, have a whole lot going on. you don't see really anything. no green, no red, no cloud. making for some nice, early mornings in the aurora for the past few days, but the side effect of that is cooler temperatures as you wake up. i know that some folks like to go, but others think it's too late in the season for golfing, but i like it because it's nice and cool. you just have to get your game and before the sun goes down. 11:00 a.m. temperature, 53 degrees. 3:00, 59. a nice, warm afternoon. wind gusting out of the south and west, he that in mind, makes it a good excuse for bad game, little windy for you. alyx: history buffs, listen up. history camp iowa will be taking place next saturday. here to tell us more about the event and why it can up real to a pretty broad audience. -- can appeal to a ready broad audience. >> history camp iowa is great for anyone interested in history. we have the gamut of people from academics, nationals, is he him's, buffs, and nerds like me, ultimately coming to share their stories. alyx: a beautiful backdrop, the historical museum is a perfect setting for some been like thihi. and it is the unique opportunity. >> we are very happy to partner with the museum and they have provided special access to their collections that are not on display for everyone who comes. that familiar with iowa history, is there something for everyone? >> absolutely, presentations run from the most basic kind of stories to the very in depth about specifif events. there are some great presentations lined up. alyx: how do people get signed up, registered to go? >> they can just sign up on our website and come join us. alyx: that's 600 east locust street. what are the hours? >> 9:00 a.m., the last session wrapping up at 5:00, but you can explore after that. alyx: anything you are looking forward to the most? >> there is one session i am really looking forward to about an original lithium curator from iowa who developed a special relationship with one of the native tribes in the state. alyx: how long are the sessions supposed to be? >> each is about one hour with alyx: have you ever done this before? >> we haven't, but the gentleman who started history cap and the boston area, he's a des moines native and i learned about history camp from him. we decided to bring it to des moines. alyx: is there a cost involved? >> to cover the lunch in the t-shirt, but you can waive the t-shirt if you want. please -- we don't have much yet -- cooling down, the feels like temperature this morning's 29 in creston. throughout the morning we slowly start to warm up with the wind starting to pick up, 40 five degrees by noontime, temperature 56, upper 50's this afternoon with an afternoon high well above average. cooling down a bit, the 9:00 temperature is in the low 40's. clear skies with high-pressure in control on the backside giving us the wind out of the south and southwest, translating into some nice temperatures. yesterday we made it up to 55, 50's. futurecast of the east, packing close together translating into some breezy conditions across the state, keep that in mind. futurecast letting it run to the afternoon, clear skies staying in place, sunshine through tomorrow, i think we are on tap for a couple of nice days by the work tomorrow. forecast high today, 59, breezy out of the south southwest. mainly clear skies, another cold one, thankfully the wind out of the south is keeping us a opening in double-oh-7 history, earning more than 88 million dollars in 2012. next week john pascuzzi reviews spectre. in your health news this morning doctors in london are calling it a breakthrough treatment. a new experimental therapy appears to have cured a baby with leukemia. tina kraus reports from london. >> one-year-old laila richards has no trace of leukemia left in her body. months after they said that she had no chance to survive. ashley richardson said that she begged specialists to try anything to save the little girl. >> she was laughing, so week before the treatment. it was horrible, horrible. >> doctors at the children's hospital in london gave her a new, experimental genetic therapy that had only been used in mice. the treatment manipulates the immune cells to target the cancel cells. she also had a bone marrow transplant to replace her entire blood in the immune system. to early to tell if other patients will respond the same way that she did. >> it worked incredibly well for her. >> we do need to do some proper studies to learn just how good they are. >> months after the treatment she is now home with her older sister, enjoying the things that children still hanging on to 35 in des moines but if you get just outside of town, it drops about 3-4 degrees. the wind chill at 29 in the metro, the wind not much of a throughout the afternoon it will be breezy out of the south and southwest. 59 by 3:00 and cooling down a little bit after sunset, 46 degrees. sunset is just after 5:00. eight day forecast, going to detail those rain chances in just a bit. alyx: new this morning des , moines police have arrested a teen in connection to the friday night homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. socop was apprehended just before 10:30 saturday night. >> all i heard was a pop, pop, pop. gunshots and that was it. alyx: des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it happened around 10:30 friday night at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to the saturday morning homicide a des moines man came , face-to-face with a suspected murderer, but didn't even know it. brendan mcguinness is suspected of killing a man in waukee saturday morning. kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: shawn, who asked us not to use his last name, says his neighbor found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk here at 28th st and capitol ave. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when we came over here. didn't speak to us at all, so yea, he was out of it. rose: shawn got a rag for the man's bleeding head and called 911. >> within about ten seconds, they had him up on his feet and arrested him. the man turned out to be 42-year-old brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a waukee homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say around 1:30 a.m. mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on se carefree lane. hospital, making it the waukee 's first homicide since 1977. >> waukee is a safe place to live. that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident and in no way does it reflect on the community or its people. rose: when shawn found mcguinness, he says he never felt he was in danger. making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight, yea, 20/20, yea, it's kind of crazy they said armed and dangerous when i looked him up later. we didn't know. we were just trying to help the guy. alyx: right now, police are not saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. also new this morning des moines , police responded to a report of shots fired this time at , evolution nightclub. officers were called for multiple shots fired on northwest 6th drive. at this point we have not heard if anyone or anything was hit. we'll bring you the latest information throughout the morning. more big stories this morning, newton police have made 3 arrests after a casey's store was robbed at gunpoint wednesday. 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now over to fort dodge where 18-year-old onterrail altman junior is in the webster county jail after an overnight chase with police. around 4:30 saturday morning police went to a home on 6th , avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving. they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading , police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. police say he then ran but was caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a viewing weather over the past few days, but it is also meant cooler temperatures waking up. satellite radar all across the midwest, not a whole lot going on. on the backside, bringing in wind out of the south so that will translate to warmer temperatures by this afternoon. 35 in des moines. 40's, minneapolis. just out to the west, bismarck and rapid city are in the low 20's. definitely a cool "saturday night live" last night. this wasn't trump's first visit to snl but it was his first as a presidential candidate. the businessman and gop front runner tried to play it serious during his opening monologue. he was loudly and provocatively heckled by actor larry david. and of course talked about not holding any grudges against anyone like rosie o'donnell. he was also joined by two-well dressed and executed doppelgangers. >> it's wonderful to be here. i will tell you, this is going to be something special. many of the greats have hosted, as you know, like me in 2004. a lot of people are saying, donald, you are the most amazing guy. you are brilliant, handsome, and rich. the world is waiting for you to be president so why are you hosting "saturday night live?" the answer is, i have nothing better to do. this show has been a disaster from a. look at this guy -- this show has been a disaster for may. look at this guy. >> i think this show just got better by about 2,000,000,000%. they just told me this is very interesting, now that i am here, this is the best monologue in snl history. >> you think you are this terrific person. you think you are this, you think you are that. bop, bop, bop. alyx: frank, i think they beat my donald trump impression. but his appearance is angering some people. they actually have a protest in manhattan. >> america is under attack we fight back. alyx: dozens marched from trump tower to rockefeller center in manhattan, where "saturday night live" tapes. hispanic groups say they are protesting trump's hardline stance against illegal immigration and some of his alleged derogatory statements about mexicans and other groups. the negative attention hasn't seemed to affect trump. he said earlier this week that it would work for him predicting that his appearance would be one of snl's highest rated shows. >> donald has promised for the whole show he is not going to brag or say he's the best at anything. right, donald? mr. trump: that's right, cecily. and i'm going to do the best job anyone's ever done not saying it. alyx: trump told fox news he made sure some sketches were left on the cutting room floor. he says there were a couple that were too risque and he doesn't want to upset iowa caucus-goers. in other commitment news. hillary clinton spoke at an event saturday night, about her support of the lgbt community. the event was a dinner hosted by a south carolina gay rights organization. clinton attended the equality dinner in columbia. ms. clinton: i want to ask you not to forget how much work still lies ahead. the work isn't finished until every single person is treated with equal rights and dignity no matter where they live. alyx: clinton also reiterated her support for the federal equality act, a law she says she plans to sign if she becomes president. and we're counting down the days until the the 2nd democratic presidential debate. the debate will air right here we are less than a this hour it feels like an marshalltown. we are going to start to warm up as we see the sunshine. 56 by noon. we will see sunshine all day long, 59 our high way around 3:00. we will start to cool down tonight back into the mid-40's. clear skies have made for some great sky gazing but it has meant some chilly temperatures for your rake up in the morning. notice this high-pressure system , it is off to the east. that will mean on the backside, wind out of the south and temperatures on the warm side. high pressure moves off to the east but it still stays in control, not much going on out to the west. there will be a system pulling in through the middle part of this week that will eventually bring some chances of rain and cooler temperatures. i'm going to let futurecast role all the way today into tomorrow. mainly clear skies both during the day and at night, meaning some warm afternoons and chilly night. high 59, 36 the low tonight. around 60 degrees. >> scott: good morning. the hawkeyes had a perfect season going. beating bloomington would not be easy. iowa new it would have to put up some points. the second play of the game, 65 yards, iowa led 14-3 in the second quarter. jordan minnesota next saturday. iowa can win two of the final three to clinch a spot in the championship game. nebraska helped out the hawkeyes, facing undefeated michigan state. they scored, randy and riley is in their. -- brandon riley is an there. throws out of bounds. nebraska wins, 39-38 giving michigan state its first loss. three teams out of iowa lost on saturday. oklahoma state gave tc its first loss and alabama beat lsu. we will see if iowa can move past all those rankings. the year was 1990, the song "hold on" by wilson phillips top the charts. while it faded away, ou's stronghold over the four minutes left, and they get one. lane ties it up into overtime, but in overtime it goes to lake >> this is breaking news from kcci eight news. alyx: we have breaking news that just came into the newsroom at cole county deputies have responded to an investigation outside evolution nightclub. it is located on sixth drive. it has turned into a homicide investigation. pulp county deputies arrived on the scene around 1:30 after hearing there was a fight. he found a victim with a gunshot wound and the victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. the victor has been identified as deshawn smith. three other victims of gunshot wounds have showed up at other hospitals. we brought you the story earlier this morning, not knowing if anyone was hit. this is breaking news into our newsroom. we will continue to follow the story throw the morning and bring you the latest information as it becomes available to us. welcome back, everybody. yesterday was almost picture-perfect with blue skies and sunshine, but pretty clear. frank: it has made for some picture-perfect viewing conditions for the aurora but that has meant cooler temperatures waking up this morning. 35 in the metro, 29 in ames. fort dodge this hour and waterloo now above the freezing mark, sitting in the mid-30's. we take a look outside at our airports skycam, the sunrise in just a little bit, 35 the current temperature downtown. the wind is out of the south at eight miles per hour. a warm afternoon, 59 degrees by 3:00. cooling down a little bit after sunset. we will be near 46 degrees by 6:00 and some rain chances in the forecast. the new interview show with fernando us playlist launches -- fernando bang -- fernando espuelas starts this week. fernando: i am very excited and i think it is going to be an interesting exploration of what the iowa voters are thinking about. i will be talking to lots of voters, doing some roundtables, of course some candidates as well, some experts. i think for a lot of people around the country, they are quite mystified why iowa is so critical in the process of electing our presidents. i hope to explain that. alyx: speaking of the last democratic debate, hillary stole it. what do you expect this time around? fernando: i think she has tremendous momentum, good news not just from the debate but on i think you will probably see bernie sanders be much more aggressive, less deferential. martin o'malley, who has not caught traction really so far, i think he has to make a big statement through his presence in order to really get some more attention. i think the fireworks will fly. the stakes are getting higher and it should make for a very interesting evening. alyx: turning to your show, ellis a little bit about your background and how it will play into the show. fernando: i am a historian by training but it had experiences across the board in business, politics, and technology. for the last almost decade i have written for newspapers, done the national radio show, and i am very much engaged with the day to day of politics. i am also quite interested in the bigger picture, what is the context. i believe america is at a crossroads and the people that we elect are so critical in this cycle that we really need to understand the real issues that are impacting our country. i hope to bring all that experience to bear in this new show. alyx: "kcci 8 news -- alyx: right now, authorities in romania say 9 more people have died with burn-related injuries in last weeks nightclub fire. the death toll in bucharest now sits at 41. the fire occurred last saturday during a heavy metal concert, when a spark from a fireworks show ignited foam decor. 180 people were injured when people fled for the only exit in a stampede. people are now blaming a lack of government safety standards for the deadly blaze. the prime minister and his cabinet resigned this week after mass protests. also overseas, russian and egyptian emergency workers laid floral tributes at the crash site for the victims of the metrojet crash. in the sinai peninsula. while examination around the crash site continues, serviceman from both countries laid flowers on the wreckage of the plane. everyone on board the russian airplane was killed. this morning we have learned of , a major development into the investigation. jill wagner reports. jill the cockpit voice recorder : from the russian airplane that crashed in the sinai desert a week ago has revealed a critical clue. >> a noise was heard in the last second of the cvr recording . jill investigators are analyzing : the noise to determine if the mid-air explosion was caused by a bomb or mechanical problem. investigators believe the plane broke apart at high altitude, but what caused it remains a mystery. crews have yet to recover all pieces of the plane. the egyptian government has launched an investigation into the airport staff and ground crew. reports quoting unnamed british officials said security footage security. >> the security here when we arrived on wednesday was atrocious. jill: but days after the tragedy, security at the sharm el sheikh airport is on high alert. thousands of frustrated tourists from russia and britain have been waiting at the airport for days to go home. both countries suspended flights to the region this week. those able to get a flight home to russia were told to leave their luggage behind. workers laid red flowers at the crash site to remember the 224 people who died in the catastrophic crash. jill wagner, cbs news. alyx: british media is reporting that an egyptian rocket came within a thousand feet of a plane bound for sharm el-sheik in august. in that incident, no one was injured. back here at home, you this morning, des moines police have arrested a teen in connection to friday night's homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and killed on the north side of des moines. it all happened around 10:30 at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to saturday morning's homicide around 1:30 police say , brendan mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on southeast carefree lane. saturday afternoon, good samaritans found mcguinness just hours later in east des moines. residents near 28th and capitol avenue say they found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk. one neighbor says mcguinness was barely conscious and bleeding from the head. that man called 911, not knowing the man was a suspected murderer. >> more than strange. i mean here we are sitting over , here my neighbors come get me and this guy is sitting over here and he's a murder suspect. we didn't know. alyx: the people found mcguinness about 20 miles away from the crime scene in waukee. he was later taken to dallas county jail. time now, 6:38. let's take a look at that forecast. is that real? that breaking news, polk county deputies are investigating a homicide this morning. they responded to shots fired at evolution nightclub just before 2:00 a.m., and when they arrived they heard multiple gunshots around the club. a gunshot victim was identified deputies received information that three other gunshot victims showed up at des moines hospitals shortly after. their names have not kcci's rose heaphy has an exclusive interview with the man who later found mcguinness. >> we were just worried about him as a person. we didn't know who he was. rose: shawn, who asked us not to use his last name, says his neighbor found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk here at 28th st and capitol ave. the man was barely conscious. >> he was unable to speak when we came over here. didn't speak to us at all, so yea, he was out of it. rose: shawn got a rag for the man's bleeding head and called 911. >> within about ten seconds, they had him up on his feet and arrested him. rose: the man turned out to be 42-year-old brendan mcguinness, the suspect in a waukee homicide that happened just hours earlier. police say around 1:30 a.m. mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on se carefree lane. risola later died at the hospital, making it waukee's first homicide since 1977. >> waukee is a safe place to live. that's the main thing. this was an isolated incident and in no way does it reflect on the community or its people. rose: when shawn found mcguinness, he says he never felt he was in danger. making the encounter all the more shocking. >> hindsight, yea, 20/20, yea, it's kind of crazy they said armed and dangerous when i looked him up later. we didn't know. we were just trying to help the guy. alyx: right now police are not , saying what the motive was behind the shooting. mcguinness is in custody at dallas county jail. we are going to switch gears over to newton. we do have a robbery that occurred there and that is one of your time around? fernando: clearly, mrs. clinton has to show that she was not just a one debate wonder, as they say. that she actually can sustain what is going to be a much harder debate. the expectations were very low last time and they are very high also you have senator sanders, who has shifted gears and is being much more forceful in criticizing secretary clinton. i think it will be an mechanical problem. investigators believe the plane broke apart at high altitude, but what caused it remains a mystery. crews have yet to recover all pieces of the plane. the egyptian government has launched an investigation into the airport staff and ground crew. reports quoting unnamed british officials said security footage from the airport showed lax the security here when we -- >> the security here when we arrived on wednesday was atrocious. jill: but days after the tragedy, security at the sharm el sheikh airport is on high alert. thousands of frustrated tourists from russia and within a thousand feet of a plane bound for sharm el-sheik in august. no one was injured. back here at home, new this morning des moines police have , arrested a teen in connection to friday night's homicide. 17-year-old josue socop has been arrested for the murder of jose lopez. des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and moines. it all happened at about 10:30 at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. now this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to saturday morning's homicide. around 1:30 police say brendan mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on southeast carefree lane. saturday afternoon, good samaritans found mcguinness just hours later in east des moines. residents near 28th and capitol avenue say they found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk. in fact, one neighbor says mcguinness was barely conscious and bleeding from the head. that man called 911, not knowing the man was a murder suspect. >> more than strange. i mean here we are sitting over , here my neighbors come get me and this guy is sitting over here and he's a murder suspect. alyx: the people found mcguinness about 20 miles away from the crime scene in waukee. he was later taken to dallas 16-year-old gabriel crandall, 17-year-old taylor helton and 24-year-old matthew bridges are all charged with first degree robbery. newton police say they will release more information on monday. now to fort dodge, police say they have arrested 18-year-old onterrail altman junior after an overnight chase through the town. around 4:30 saturday morning, police went to a home on 6th avenue for a report of a person peeking inside the window. officers arrived and saw a truck leaving. they tried to stop the truck but the driver sped off leading , police on a chase through a neighborhood. it ended when altman crashed into a utility pole. police say he then ran from the car but was caught. altman is facing a number of charges including eluding law enforcement and interference with a weapon. two hancock county now, a former member of the iowa state patrol will face trial next month in a child pornography case after withdrawing his guilty plea. 66-year-old david hubbard, of garner, is set to stand trial december 2. police found two photos and one video involving a minor in november 2013. hubbard retired from the iowa state patrol in 2004 after serving 30 years. still ahead on frank. here with us this morning is dr. steffany mohan of plaza dental group. and this morning, we're talking about a new groundbreaking treatment that is for gone recession. it is called chau pinhole gun technique. this is more serious than people think. it could be for medical reasons or maybe just to look at her. what to look for is my question. >> a lot of people know already because they have been told by their dentist or hygienist that they have it. people start to get a little sensitivity at the gum line and realize their gums are pulling away a little bit. it is the most sensitive area on the tooth. if that gum recedes below that or above that, it really does create quite a bit of sensitivity. people usually know if they have a little bit of recession and if alyx: it can be for cosmetic reasons or by necessity. >> they say it sometimes can be the beginning of the end of the tooth when the gums recede. people are very prone to get cavities in those areas. alyx: tell us a little bit about this technique, how it works, how long the recovery process is . >> what is wonderful about it is that it is very minor, compared to what we used to do. it is very simple. we make a little opening above the gums and shimmy everything down. it used to be that we had to take a graft from the palette and take some of that tissue off the pallet and then so it on to that area. a lot of times it did not work we kind of bucket in with the gums come together with the teeth and use a little bit of collagen -- tuck it in with the gums -- where the gums come together with the teeth and use a little bit of collagen. it takes a little bit of time but it is not painful to the patient, and the recovery is really simple. people eat pretty normally the next day and do not take very much pain medication. alyx: that is what is so groundbreaking, because it is so different. >> and it is a little more effective than sewing something from a different area on to that. alyx: we are showing investigating a homicide this morning. deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 4397 northwest 6th drive, which is evolution nightclub just before 2:00 a.m. when deputies arrived they heard multiple gunshots coming from the area around the club. this is a live picture you are looking at now. officers located a gunshot wound victim who was identified as 20-year-old dashwan e. smith of des moines. he was transported to the hospital, where he later died. there were three other people injured as well. >> there is multiple shell casings found on the scene and we are currently processing all that evidence. polk county detectives along with dci are working together to alyx: while investigating, polk county deputies were able to get more information about three other gunshot wound victims that had shown up to local hospitals. deputies are urging the public for help. if you have any information about the shootings, please call the police. as we wrap things up, let's take a final
