N440K mutant could reinfect recovered Covid-19 persons: DAK By KNS
Apr 24, 2021
Srinagar, Apr 24 (KNS): With the detection of N440K mutant in Kashmir, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday said people who have recovered from Covid-19 could be reinfected with the mutated strain of the novel coronavirus.
“Those who have got Covid-19 infection could get sick again with the new variant,” said DAK President and influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan.
“The N440K mutant that is dominant in some of the Indian states has found its way into the valley,” he said.
Quoting research conducted by the Kurnool Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, Dr Nisar said N440K variant can escape the immune response and can cause reinfection.

As a new variant of novel Coronavirus detected in the UK has been raising concerns all over the world, Indian scientists have detected at least 19 variants of the virus with the ability to evade antibodies.
The team of Indian scientists also found that out of these 19 SARS-CoV-2 variants one has the capability to cause re-infection. The researchers studied as many as 120 unique mutated variants of the novel virus. They noticed that across 63 countries 86 such variants possess the ability to dodge the immune response of the human body.

New Delhi: At least 19 genetic variants of the SARS-CoV-2 in India have evolved to evade neutralising antibodies that the human immune system creates against the Covid-19 infection, with one of these variants having already caused a confirmed case of reinfection in the country, a study has found.Â
A team from CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), New Delhi; Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), CSIR-HRDC, Uttar Pradesh, and Kurnool Medical College in Andhra Pradesh identified 120 âimmune escape variantsâ in SARS-CoV-2 from across the globe.
