Green pledge: Manipur beat Nagaland in friendly match

Our Correspondent Kohima, June 4 (EMN): Manipur beat Nagaland 3-2 in the friendly football exhibition match played to create environmental consciousness among citizens, on the eve of World Environment Day at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Saturday. The friendly match was the first of its kind with Kangleipak Pari XI (Manipur) featuring Indian Super League players. As for Kohima Town Club XI (representing Nagaland), the players were selected from various local clubs. Organised by the KTC in collaboration with Kohima Forest Division, the match was a tool to create awareness about climate crisis and global warming around the world. Tree saplings were also distributed to spectators. Nyithong Magh of Kohima Town Club XI scored the opening goal. But the equaliser goal came from Kangleipak Pari XI team captain, Samboi of East Bengal FC, who later scored another goal, sealing victory for the team. Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): Kohima Town Club (KTC) is all set to host the exhibition match between KTC XI and Kangleipak Pari, a team consisting of Indian Super League players from Manipur, at IG stadium Kohima from 5:30 pm onwards on Saturday. This is the first of its kind in Nagaland, where a club, in collaboration with Kohima Forest Division will be organising an exhibition match to promote sports as well as creating awareness on environment, an update from KTC informed. The exhibition match aims to promote environment awareness while giving exposure to the upcoming state players against the elite team of Indian Super League team from Manipur. On the eve of the World Environment Day, around 2000 saplings will be distributed to the spectators and the players towards a green pledge. Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire will attend the occasion as the special guest. Ticket price for the exhibition match is INR 100 per person. New Market FC lift Kohima Super Cup title

Our Correspondent Kohima, May 31 (EMN): Unbeaten New Market FC (NMFC) won Kohima Super Cup 2022 after taking down Barak FC 4-0 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on Tuesday. Dubbed as one of the oldest football clubs in Nagaland, NMFC emerging as the champion did not come as a surprise with other strong other clubs bowing out in the semi-finals. The team had remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, while its opponent Barak FC lost a match against Magdaline FC during the league match. The 45-year-old NMFC took the lead when Haotinmang Thomsong scored the first goal four minutes into the match. However, the match was halted for a few minutes in between when one of the floodlights went off. Letkhokai Kuki scored the second goal for NMFC in the 23rd minute. In the second half, Thejasetuo and Nyithong Magh scored a goal each in the 60th and 66th minute to seal the win for NMFC.
