David Nelson: Spring's great opportunity to give

The signs of spring all seem to be out now, the daffodils, the cherry blossoms, the guys in Bremerton taking their shirts off when it hits 55 degrees.  There s another subtle hint that I really enjoy, seen usually on social media and in your email in-box. That s the royal blue and green logo of the Kitsap Great Give popping up everywhere. If you re connected with a non-profit in any way or have friends who are, you ve started to see these reminders that the eight edition of the 24-hour community fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, April 20.  Last year really cemented the event as a community institution, when donations passed the $2 million mark and more than 300 non-profits in Kitsap and North Mason took part. This year s event increased the number of participants past 350, and hopefully the amount of giving does likewise. A fundraising effort that may help us all read more David Nelson, Kitsap Sun © Kitsap Sun David Nelson In the months preceding the 2020 election I gave several presentations to local groups on the topic of misinformation, roused by a clear interest from members of our community in both preserving and finding ways to find information that is verified and true. I haven t been approached for my opinion on the topic since last October, but the events last Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol revived the questions in my mind and renewed the importance of what we had discussed.  There are a lot of factors that played a role in the insurrection we saw in Washington, D.C.
