A fundraising effort that may help us all 'read more'

In the months preceding the 2020 election I gave several presentations to local groups on the topic of misinformation, roused by a clear interest from members of our community in both preserving and finding ways to find information that is verified and true. I haven't been approached for my opinion on the topic since last October, but the events last Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol revived the questions in my mind and renewed the importance of what we had discussed. 
There are a lot of factors that played a role in the insurrection we saw in Washington, D.C. I am not an expert in most of them, like the online radicalization that leads people to extreme acts, the hyper-partisan tone in our country currently, what law enforcement goes through to ensure our security and public safety, and personal civility in general. But I can comment on one aspect that does pertain to what I do for a living. That's misinformation, the thing so many people were concerned about prior to the election, which clearly has played a part in driving people to take extreme actions based on information designed to anger and inflame passions. I think the past week shows how important that conversation about accountable and responsible news gathering remains and will be in the months and years to come.
