SURAT: A court in Surat awarded life imprisonment to Shailesh Rathod, a 45-year-old textile unit worker for raping and impregnating his 19-year-old niece.
The court convicted Rathod, a resident of Salabatpura area, for rape and sexual assault under the sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The girl was eight months pregnant when the family came to know about her ordeal.
Due to the delay, she could not get the foetus aborted. DNA profiling of the child proved that Rathod was her father.
The complaint was lodged by the elder brother of the girl at Salabatpura police station on September 23, 2020 in which he claimed that she was 14-year-old. ....

Forgery of HC order: Man denied bail | Surat News

Surat: A man living in Nanpura area had sent a forged high court order to the Surat Parsi Panchayat last month to allow the final rites of even the community members who succumb to Covid at the Tower of Silence. Mahiyar Patel, who works at a motor driving training school, was arrested and sent to judicial custody. He filed a bail application which was denied by a sessions court here on Monday.
In his bail plea, Patel stated that was arrested on suspicion and he has not taken any advantage of the forged order. According to the case details, the Parsi panchayat had passed a resolution to cremate Covid victims according to Hindu rituals. This had hurt Patel’s religious sentiments as his father Ratansha Patel too had succumbed to Covid and his final rites were performed according to Hindu rituals. ....

Labourer gets 20-year jail term for raping teenager | Surat News

Surat: A special court here on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old labourer to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years for abducting and raping a teenage girl in June last year.
The court of special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) judge P S Kala also fined the convict, Sanjay Solanki of Rs 12,000 and, awarded compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the girl following a trial that lasted for less than nine months.
According to case details, Solanki had abducted the girl (then 13-year-old) on June 4 last year when she went to buy snacks near her house in Amroli in Surat. Solanki lured the girl with marriage promise following which they went to his village in Bhavnagar district. Solanki raped the girl twice in his village and was arrested a few days later when police reached his village searching for him and the girl. He was booked for abduction, rape and violation of POCSO Act at Amroli police station. ....

MP man held for rape, murder of 5-year-old | Surat News

Surat: A labourer from Madhya Pradesh was arrested on Saturday evening for the alleged raping and brutal murder of a five-year-old girl living in his neighbourhood in Hazira on April 30.
The 27-year-old accused Sujit Saket told police that he committed the crime as he had a rift with her father over a petty fight that took place in 2019.
Police said that when the girl had gone to answer nature’s call in the open near her house, Saket bumped into her. He lured the girl by offering money to buy chocolate and took her to an uninhabited room behind their housing colony. Saket admitted to police that he raped and sodomized the girl too. When she started shouting, Saket hit her with a brick on her head and later strangulated her. Saket then dumped her body in bushes behind the room. ....
