COVID-19 claims life of second Killeen educator, KEA says

A Killeen Independent School District high school teacher died from COVID-19, according to a social media post from the Killeen Educators Association. David “Scott” Dumler, 55, a Killeen High School history teacher with over two decades of teaching in KISD under his belt, succumbed to complications from COVID-19, according to the Killeen Educators Association. “Even as antimaskers rally at the Bell County Courthouse we have received a report of a longtime Killeen High School coach passing from COVID-19,” Killeen Educators Association posted Sunday. “We mourn his passing even as we continue to advocate for safety during the still active pandemic. We continue to strongly support the district’s decision to continue its mask mandate.”

County Teams Compete in Bluebonnet Relays

The Brownwood Lady Lions finished fifth as a team while the Lions placed sixth on Friday at the Bluebonnet Relays at Gordon Wood Stadium. The Lady Lions produced 77 points which left them behind Killeen High (156), Harker Heights (119), Stephenville (109) and Brock (88). The Lions generated 58 points which trailed Harker Heights (146), Killeen High (140), Stephenville (73), Brock (70), and Lampasas (59). According to the official Bluebonnet Relays results, the Early Longhorns won the Class A-3A small school division, while the Lady Horns missed out on a title by two points, finishing just behind Eastland. Also, the Bangs Lady Dragons placed third as a team and the Dragons come in fourth place.

Varsity portion of Bluebonnet Relays to take place Friday

The varsity portion of the Bluebonnet Relays is slated to take place Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium with a format the features essentially two track and field meets in one. The Class 1A-3A schools will begin competing with field events at 9 a.m. and running finals at noon, while the Class 4A-6A schools start their field events at 4 p.m. and running finals at 7 p.m. Due to COVID guidelines established by the UIL, no more than eight teams can compete in a meet which has led to the staggered starts. “We always want to make this as big as we can make it and had this overbooked when the restrictions came out so I had to go with the first eight that committed,” said Lions track and field head coach Andy Howard. “At 9 a.m. Friday we’re going to have our small school division and that’s Early Bangs, Cherokee, Roscoe, San Saba, Eastland, Whitney and Brady coming to that.
