People queue up to cast their votes in Kokrajhar on Thursday GUWAHATI: Stray incidents of violence marked the second and final phase of the Bodoland Territorilal Council (BTC) polls which recorded a polling percentage of 78.8%, which is marginally higher than the first phase figure of 77%. Since morning, long queues were seen outside polling stations and the percentage steadily surged as the day progressed. “The polling has been higher than the first phase though there have been one or two stray incidents. A tentative polling percentage of 78.8% has been recorded. We are waiting for the final figures. The voter turnout was expected,” Assam State Election commissioner Alok Kumar said. ....

The fate of former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and former deputy chief Khampa Borgoyary (both from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), along with several top Bodo leaders, will be decided in the second phase of elections. Polling will start at 7:30 am in the morning and conclude at 4:30 pm.
