Walz extends Minnesota’s peacetime emergency

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) — Gov. Tim Walz announced he signed Executive Order 21-12 Monday, extending the peacetime emergency in the state as vaccination distribution ramps up.
The executive order was unanimously approved by the Executive Council, which is made up of Walz, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Secretary of State Steve Simon and State Auditor Julie Blaha.
“We are closer than ever to ending this pandemic and returning to our daily lives – and we must keep up the momentum,” Walz said in a statement released by his office. “The peacetime emergency enables us to safeguard the progress we’ve made, protect Minnesotans’ health and well-being, and efficiently deliver the vaccine.” ....

BLUE EARTH, Minn. (KEYC) A regional food bank in southern Minnesota will be bringing boxes of free food to the Faribault County Fairgrounds next weekend.
Channel One Regional Food Bank will be hosting the “Truck to Trunk” event in Blue Earth on Saturday, March 20.
The “Farmers to Families” food boxes will be available to anyone in need and contain milk, cheese and yogurt; cooked, refrigerated meat; and fresh fruit and vegetables. ....

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — Local middle school students Payton Bruns and Jaelyn Doss wanted to do something to give back to others.
“We wanted to do a good deed and make people’s day,” said Bruns.
Over the past months, the two friends have made homemade hot cocoa bombs, sweet treats that explode in hot milk, all to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. ....

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) Job numbers were down 7% locally in January, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
The Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area lost 4,074 jobs year-over-year, however, the local area gained 343 jobs in January compared to December.
Manufacturing saw the greatest annual decline at 10.5%, the service sector was down 6.2% and government jobs were down 3.95%.
