Now streaming online, Changemakers, a collection of 20 original, two-minute plays and musicals inspired by community leaders, activists, and front-line workers who have fought for change over the course of the past year.

Professional playwrights, students collaborate in KU Theatre s season finale

Thu, 04/29/2021 LAWRENCE Through a series of 20 short scenes and songs, Changemakers shares stories inspired by community leaders, activists and front line workers who have fought for change. This collaborative work, written by commissioned playwrights working alongside students, makes its world premiere Thursday, April 29, as the University Theatre’s season finale. Changemakers  showtimes are 7:30 p.m. April 29-30 and 2:30 p.m. May 2 online and for a limited, in-person audience. Changemakers was co-written by members of the cast in collaboration with 20 professional playwrights commissioned for this production. Among the KU alumni playwrights are Bill Russell and James Still. This production is directed by Markus Potter, assistant professor of performance, and Darci Jens Fulcher, visiting assistant director, with musical direction and live accompaniment by Ryan McCall.

Tue, 02/23/2021 LAWRENCE – The University Theatre’s spring debut brings professional actors Zooming in to interact with student actors for the world premiere of “Musings of Fire.” A poignant illumination of the country’s current political, social and cultural climate, “Musings of Fire” has been adapted from Shakespeare’s text by Santiago Sosa, visiting assistant professor, who is also directing. Sosa is credited with the collaboration between the University of Kansas Department of Theatre & Dance and Island Shakespeare Festival in Washington state. “ Musings of Fire’ is a theatrical, spoken-word, movement-driven, devised experience that explores the current political, cultural and social climate that this country has been thrust in and asked to navigate by using and, sometimes, recontextualizing the words of William Shakespeare to illuminate the many things that are running through our mind s eye,” Sosa said. “This show was conceived during weeks of qua
