porous borders. catherine herridge is streaming live from kabul, afghanistan. reporter: thank you very much. patti ann. we got here 122016 hours ago. we pretty much hit the ground running. we headed up there with the homeland security secretary janet napolitano. it was her first visit to the border. we took a helicopter directly east toward the khyber pass. as we got on the ground it is clear why we were there. she has 24 agents on the ground. customs patrol and coast garden forcement and they re part of the systemmian surge to help the afghans police the border up in by the khyber pass. we spent most of the day at the forward operating bases. it has been there since 2003-2004. what you see from the video. it is fairly sprawling. it is about 500 people. a total of military and afghan civilians. that is the where the bulk of the training is being done. before we hit the ground we spoke with the secretary and we re traveling exclusively with her over the next few days. ....
