Overcoming a slow start, the Central College volleyball team rallied for four-set victory over Buena Vista University Wednesday night, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-19. The Dutch struggled in the first set with just nine kills and .029 hitting percentage. They had at least 14 kills in the next four sets, including 17 in the second set. Kayleigh Fite had another monster game for the Dutch with 18 kills, including eight in the second set. Setter Amanda Smith had a double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs while also adding two blocks. At the net, Central had nine total blocks, highlighted by one solo and five assisted blocks by Hallie Uhlig. Central also got 16 kills from Krissa Larson and 25 digs from Landry Luhring. ....
Seniors spark Central volleyball victory PELLA Spearheaded by its three-member senior class, the Central College volleyball team secured a four-set victory against Loras College Saturday night, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18, 26-24. The Dutch (2-2, 2-2 American Rivers Conference) handed the Duhawks (4-1, 4-1 conference) their first defeat of the season. It is also their first win against Loras since 2016. Kayleigh Fite (senior, middle hitter, Florissant, Mo., Trinity Catholic HS) unleashed a career-high 20 kills, yielding a .318 hitting percentage. She also had 14 digs for her second double-double of the season. “I couldn’t be happier for her because I know she’s earned it,” coach Jeanne Czipri said. “It’s a great way for her to celebrate her four years here.” ....

After a strong first set, the Central College volleyball team could not sustain the offense in a three-game defeat Friday night, 25-20, 25-11, 25-16. It was the home opener for the Dutch while the Knights remained unbeaten in league matches. The Dutch notched just 20 kills compared to 23 hitting errors, resulting in a negative hitting percentage. Krissa Larson led the team with six kills in just 12 attempts. Middle hitter Kayleigh Fite had three kills and a pair of aces. Amanda Smith had 17 assists and libero Landry Luhring had 16 digs. The Dutch return to action next Thursday with a 5 p.m. match at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. ....
