U of O Tweaks Facial Covering Rules On Campus


U of O has some new guidelines for masking on campus.

At a Lane County Public Health press briefing Tuesday, spokesperson Kay Jarvis said the U of O has adapted to rapidly evolving guidance on stopping the spread of COVID-19.
“Face coverings are no longer required outdoors on campus when people are alone or in an uncrowded area, she said. However, face masks continue to be required outdoors when gathering with others and indoors unless someone is alone in a fully enclosed room.”  
Jarvis stated the university’s mask policy aligns with guidance from the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon-OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) rules for workplaces.    ....

University of Oregon still undecided on requiring COVID-19 vaccines in fall

The University of Oregon still is undecided on whether it will require students and other people at the university to have the COVID-19 vaccine come fall as other colleges and public universities move forward with the requirement.
Given the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations to public health, the university is carefully considering our options for requiring members of the UO community to be vaccinated, spokesperson Kay Jarvis said in a statement. We are engaging with employee and student groups, as well as public health partners, as we consider a path forward. We know this decision is important to the community, and we expect to communicate something soon. ....

More than 100 college-age University of Oregon football fans packed into a backyard Saturday, May 1, 2021, to celebrate the spring football game, ignoring the crowd limits set by the state, which put Lane County in extreme risk status April 30.
An uptick in local cases threw Lane County back into extreme risk, upending the plans of many businesses, football fans and the community as a whole.
County commissioners wrote to the state asking it to reconsider and grant more local control on industry guidelines and focus on pushing more vaccinations. ....
