confusion on cal s campus tonight over a series of right-wing speeches. students are uncertain how it will affect them or even if it will happen. good evening. i m kristen sze. and larry beal. the four-day event starts on sunday. university police say they ll be ready no matter what happens. katie? reporter: organizers say they ll release a list of speakers tomorrow at a press conference. because there s been a lot of confusion as to who s actually speaking during this free speech week. meanwhile, the city of berkeley has released a list of banned items, basically anything that could be used as a weapon. the university of california berkeley is preparing for the worst ahead of an event dubbed free speech week. it s led by political commentator myron whose event plannednto a riot. it got national attention. that s why the people are here. if you would let him speak, none of this would have happened. reporter: wasserman debated political organizers who planned to protes
and firefighters can t catch a break. we have an update on the new fires that started today. good evening, everybody. let s start with the latest now on a fire burning in the santa cruz mountains. a new fire north of boulder creek. it s still only 5% contained. we get a clear sense of where it s burning tonight. you can see there at the top of your screen, and deer creek near the bottom. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen has more. reporter: in the santa cruz mountains, the bear fire near boulder creek rages on as fire crews struggle to contain it. when the material up the slopes burning, what happens is it breaks apart and starts rolling down the hill. and it rolls down below where they re putting the fire lines in. reporter: the dry conditions and steep terrain are challenging to navigate. the trees, the redwoods and all of the litter on the forest floor burn almost as well as if they were dead fuel. reporter: the bear fire initially started as a structure fir
rainfall ranges from 1/4 ichlk to about 1 1/2 inch for most areas. in the next couple hours, we ll see some heavy rain indicated by orange and yellow through parts of the north bay. it will be moving throughout the bay area during the early morning hours and continuing into the afternoon, but by 2:00, 4:00, we ll see some isolated showers, a minor break before a major storm heading our way. cornell? all right, frances, thank you. in developing news this morning, berkeley police looking for a man who they believe viciously stabbed one person to death and injured another. 2-year-old pablo gomez jr. of southern california is believed to be armed and dangerous. police found the body on ashby avenue after discovering a seriously wounded woman on ridge road. she is listed in stable condition this morning. the motive for the stabbing has not been released. hoping for the best but expecting the worst, residents in the santa cruz mountains are bracing for lots of rain and wind f
good morning, bay area. let s get up and get going. this is abc 7 mornings. it is a stormy sunday across the bay area in the south bay steady rain is falling. this is what it looked like in los gatos this morning, how much more rain with ke expect today? good morning, everyone, it s sunday, january 22nd, i m carolyn tyler, thanks for joining us. let s start with the quick look at the weather with our meteorologist, lisa argan. good morning to you. the short answer, anywhere from a quarter inch to maybe an inch in the santa cruz mountains as we look at live doppler 7, three cold fronts has pushed through the bay area and we re looking at more rain and a line from monterrey all the way up to snor ra. you can see a few areas of showers off the coast from monterra and we have flood warnings to pass along. up through sonoma, this is in effect for 15 minutes. we have some of the small creeks overflowing their banks. and so we will be looking at flooding in the low lying areas
