Cape Cod educators, in another policy switch, now likely to get own clinic

Educators likely will get their own COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Cape Cod after all.
In a U-turn from their announcement earlier this week, Cape Cod officials are working on plans for a clinic that would be open only to K-12 educators and staff, and child care workers.
The Barnstable County Vaccine Consortium will release more details next week, state Sen. Julian Cyr, D-Truro, said Thursday during the Cape Cod COVID-19 Response Task Force’s weekly press briefing.
His announcement marks a shift from a letter the Cape’s legislative delegation sent Tuesday to Cape school superintendents.
The letter, signed by eight legislators, said the Baker-Polito administration had told them it had no plans for an educator-only site anywhere on Cape Cod, including the Upper Cape Regional Technical School in Bourne, where some officials had hoped to host a teacher-vaccination clinic. ....

Cape legislators: No immediate plans for a teacher-only vaccination site on Cape Cod

BOURNE The Cape s legislative delegation sent a letter to local school superintendents telling them not to expect an educator-only vaccination site this side of the bridge any time soon, even as state officials Wednesday called for such local clinics to be held.
“We have asked the Baker-Polito Administration about setting up educator-specific sites and, so far, we have received a hard NO,” the letter dated Tuesday read.
The eight legislators urged teachers and other school employees not to wait for a vaccine but to avail themselves of appointments through CVS, the state’s seven mass vaccination sites and other currently available locations. ....

COVID vaccine Cape Cod: Upper Cape Tech approved as staff vaccine site

Now the school just needs the vaccine nearly 2,000 doses.
“That’s what we’re waiting for,” school Superintendent Roger Forget said Wednesday afternoon.
The plan is to dispense 1,997 first shots in a single day possibly March 19 to pre-K through grade 12 staff in the Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth, Mashpee and Upper Cape Tech school districts, he said.
“It’s not just teachers. It’s everyone. It’s the bus drivers. It’s the custodians,” said Forget, who worked with state Rep. Steven G. Xiarhos, Sandwich Selectman David J. Sampson and Sandwich fire Chief John Burke to get the state Department of Public Health to approve the school as a vaccination site. ....
