Power surge issues. We are hoping to learn more later this morning but until then commuters from the east bay will have to deal with delays. So the two stops that we are focusing on this morning are the North Concord and pittsburg bay point stops. This is where service has been stopped and temporarily replaced with a bus bridge to shuttle commuters between the two stops so bart says crews have been testing the tracks for days now and yesterday after continuing to examine where the power surges happen, bart still didnt have a reason for this destruction so some morning commuters arent thrilled with the prolonged delays and lack of answers. I hope they get it done speedy, really quick because we need to get where we got to go, you know. Reporter bart issues have become a topic of conversation among transit experts across the country. They say these problems are most likely the result of aging tracks so you may recall that bart had a power surge issue last month in february. Bart is still recovering from that. They are still down a couple of dozen cars from that as this problem, so bart has a major lack of cars. From the North Concord bart station, jackie ward, kpix5. You just touched on that. Well, michelle, we dont know where this power surge issue, if its stemming from that substation in west oakland, if its something totally different. Taking a look at conditions along the east shore freeway if you are commuting towards the bay bridge this morning, so far, so good, no delays out of berkeley or emeryville. You are quiet out of oakland into San Francisco. 18 minutes for your drive time on the westbound side of 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze and the Golden Gate Bridge off to a great start out of marin, no delays southbound 101, 580 into San Francisco, the drive time only 14 minutes right now and the rest of our bay bridge the san mateo bridge where it will take you 13 minutes to make your across the span. Once youre on 101, headed to sfo northbound, 92 to the 80 split, only 18 minutes. The weather is quite chilly in much of new england. This workweek a spring storm is expected to dump four to 8 inches of wet snow in massachusetts and rhode island. The rough commute for many in the region as roads are very slick there. Investigators are trying to determine what led to a deadly shooting at a toll booth in pennsylvania. State troopers say 55yearold Clarence Briggs killed a toll collector and a Security Guard yesterday before he was fatally shot by hi trooper at the scene by a trooper at the scene. Briggs himself was a retired state trooper. Investigators think this could have been a botched robbery attempt. A gruesome discovery near hollywoods most famous sign. Hikers found a human skull on a trail there on saturday. Police say the remains have been there for a long time. No other body parts discovered nearby. The driver says the man in a truck behind her first threw out a box which caught her attention and then she says she saw him throw out a cat. He threw the cat on the inside of the street, like not even by the sidewalk so if i hadnt seen it, if i hadnt been paying attention, i would have driven away and who knows, the cat could have gotten killed and run over. Pittsburg bay point stations, 10, 15 minute delay in both directions on the pittsburg bay point lines that will slow you down as well. Bus bridges, though, are in place this morning. Jumping over to highway 4 where we are keeping a close eye on your commute out of pittsburgh this morning, that westbound side so far traffic is fairly light, its moving along pretty nicely, 63 Miles Per Hour is what we are seeing as we clock in speeds there, so far, so good headed towards the east shore freeway but you might see extra cars on the roadway as a lot of people avoid using bart through that section there. Taking a look at traffic through the Altamont Pass, speeds dipping to about 32 Miles Per Hour in some spots right now, so slow and go there. Its going to be slow as you work your way east of there. A lot of delays around this morning as you connect from 205 over to 580. 580 itself working towards the dublin interchange, so far only a 15 minute ride Altamont Pass to 680, no delays there and the east shore freeway commute looks good there, westbound 80 working your way out of berkeley and emeryville. 18 minutes from the carquinez bridge as you head towards the maze. Look at the forecast, a little rain ahead. Heres brian. We are starting out with, well, you know, lets get the official readings, weve got some clear skies in Mountain View and san jose, light rain in santa rosa and in between its pretty much in between, partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies in the central bay area. Sonoma county a little light rain to deal with today. Out the door this morning looking like this, a few scattered showers around the bay area and then later today we will top out in the warmest spots in the mid60s. And heres whats happening this morning as we look live at the bay bridge from high atop the transamerica pyramid, its 51 in concord right now, 53 in San Francisco and 50 degrees in san jose. Hidef doppler shows showers up around cape mendocino. Here in the bay area not picking up that light rain in santa rosa, a little bit down there in san jose. Low pressure is bringing all of this in. As long as this low continues to pinwheel these showers into the bay area we will stay wet but High Pressure bubble out here, it will build back into the west coast by wednesday and so we are going to have fairly wet weather we will have scattered showers this afternoon and it will continue through early tomorrow morning and then we will begin to dry it out and wednesday, thursday and friday look sunny. We do have the surf up, that low pressure is also kicking up the surf out there. All coastal locations, breakers up to 20 feet today so have a care if youre going oceanside. Winter weather advisories are posted for those being lucky enough to be headed to the sierra on a monday. Chain delays likely with four to 8 inches of snow on the way. Get an idea whats going to happen. Showers coming in later in the day today. We start off with not much but then from time to time you will think, oh, look, its clearing up and then, ah, its dumping down, and, oh, look its clearing up so its spring weather, one of those kinds of storms that come in, abate, dissipate and then rain again.
