Srinagar faces a severe shortage of green spaces, with only 169 parks covering 287 hectares, falling 50% short of recommended green space according to urban development guidelines. Contrary to WHO standards, Srinagar provides just 2.6 square meters of open space per resident, far below the recommended nine square meters. Now part of the Partap Park is being conevrted into a concrete structure for a memorial to security personnel who fell in the line of their duty. The declining green spaces have contributed to worsening air quality and air pollution-related health issues in Srinagar.

Announcing this, the director of Health, Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, told Outlook that the focus is on vaccination and testing, and “travellers entering Kashmir whether by road or by air are tested.”
