Across the united states. You know, city leaders, whether you are in a city, town or village are uniquely situated. What do i mean by that . In the state of the union you have National Media do you have congress and its all about trying to score partisan points. But, in the state of the city its really talking to constituents, connecting with them about what youve done and about what you are going to do. I will tell you another place where we are uniquely situated. We see our constituents every day in Grocery Stores and in our places of worship and in everyday areas like the ywca and sometimes they just show up at city hall, whether they have an appointment or not because they want to talk to the mayor. Guess what . We talked because that is what mayors and what city leaders do. This year i gave my eight state of the city address. I will tell you, we have gone to doing this a ....
This is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. Pelley good evening. The killing of unarmed black men by White Police Officers helped expose again the racial divide in this country. Well, tonight a new cbs news poll shows just how deep it is. Have a look. Back in 2009 after barack obama was inaugurated, 66 of americans said Race Relations were good. Now its 45 . Thats a drop of 21 points and the lowest in 17 years. And jim axelrod is here with more of the story that the numbers tell. Jim . Reporter scott, our cbs news poll gives us a window into a nation divided along racial lines. 74 of blacks we asked believe police resort to deadly force too quickly compared to just 28 of whites. 84 of blacks say police are more likely to use deadly force against a black person and no black, zero percent believe police are most likely to use deadly force against whites. Just 10 said ....

This is done tremendous good in training more than 15,000 officers across this country. Finally, hes increased the federal grant money thats gone to groups like ours and others who are focused on officer safety and wellness. Those are just some great examples of the leadership hes provided. I dont think its any coincidence that as a result of all of those efforts, the last two years now, weve seen fewer Law Enforcement fatalities than any year for the last 50. Thats a great credit to leadership and to this group and so many others focused on this issue. A lot more work clearly needs to be done.
