As part of its monthly Hot Topics series, the League of Women Voters of the Willmar Area focused on the challenges around housing and what is going on to meet those needs.
The Kandiyohi County Board has approved the creation of a local housing trust fund. Monies in the fund will be used to help make housing projects a reality.
It is predicted that seniors will see the most population growth and make up a large portion of the additional housing needed in Willmar and Kandiyohi County by 2030.

The new rental inspector hired by the city of Willmar this year has helped the city address residents complaints and compile evidence which may cause major problems for Suite Liv’n, a company that owns nearly 900 rental units throughout Willmar. Due to the extensive maintenance problems, city officials don't expect the company can pass muster for renewal of rental licenses on 20% of the properties in Willmar.
