Seventy-year-old suspect dies in RM3mil MMEA drug bust

KLANG: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized over RM3mil worth of syabu and ecstasy bound for Indonesia in a dramatic chase that saw a 70-year-old suspect lose his life. The suspect died after the alleged drug runners vessel collided with an MMEA patrol boat at around 11pm on Sunday (May 30). Two other suspects were arrested in the incident, MMEA deputy director-general (operations) Rear Admiral (Maritime) Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said. He said the patrol team spotted a suspicious-looking boat with three suspects on board south-west of Sungai Kapar Kecil. Kamaruszaman said the team, which was part of Ops Belangkas patrolling the Selangor coast, stopped the boat about 3.4 nautical miles south-west of the river.

JOHOR BARU, Dec 22 ― The Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) busted a drug smuggling syndicate ferrying 100 kilogrammes of syabu (crystal methamphetamine) estimated to be worth RM5.1 million hidden in a fishing boat yesterday. The authorities stopped the boat in the waters off the Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) near Pasir Gudang at 9.45 last night.

5:26 PM MYT JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle some 100kg of drugs worth RM5.1mil near the Tanjung Pelepas port here. MMEA deputy operations director Rear Admiral (Maritime) Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said a fibreglass fishing boat ferrying the drugs was believed to be heading towards Indonesia when it was detected by the MMEA at about 9.30pm on Monday (Dec 21). “The boat was moving from the Sungai Boh estuary near Tanjung Pelepas and was heading towards the Tanjung Piai waters. When the suspect who was on the boat realised that the MMEA was following him, he turned off the boat’s lights and sped off towards the nearby mangrove forest.
