Rotorua and Taupō residents rushed to local Covid-19 testing stations on Monday. Lakes District Health Board confirmed a total of 194 tests were undertaken, 126 in Rotorua and 68 in Taupō, after three community cases were discovered in Auckland.
Across three days at both centres last week there were only 61 total tests - making Monday s total an increase of more than 200 per cent.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced New Zealand would hastily move to alert level 2, except Auckland which moved to level 3, at 11.59pm.

A queue of cars built up at the Covid-19 testing station at Rotorua s Kahukura Rugby Club this morning.
About 20 cars lined up in the club s car park on Pukuatua St as Auckland returned to alert level 3 and the rest of the country to alert level 2 after the discovery of three new community Covid cases.
Rotorua s Jamie Adlam was at the station having a test as his girlfriend had returned from Auckland where she had visited one of the places of interest.

The Lakes District Health Board s two community testing centres have increased their opening hours after the discovery of a community case in Northland.
The centres are at Kahukura Rugby Sports Club on Pukuatua St, Rotorua and 79 Miro St, Taupō.
They are opening from 12.30pm today and will be open seven days a week from 9am to 3pm for two weeks.
These opening hours can be extended should there be demand.
