Ministers are working on plans to pardon the so-called “metric martyrs” – five market traders who were convicted for selling their wares in pounds and ounces two decades ago.
Any change in the law is likely to mean that shops will be allowed to decide for themselves whether to sell goods in imperial measurements alone.
