A public defender for Maurice Slaughter III said prosecutors brought forth unreliable witnesses and little physical evidence to support Slaughter s culpability.
The woman suffered permanent disfigurement to the right side of her body, including her neck, thigh and stomach. "She will never forget you," the judge said.
The man, who already is serving a sentence for shooting a woman four times and attempting to murder her son, remains charged with murdering three people in two separate cases.
