Hawks Split With Hounds and Panthers

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team wrapped up the pre-Christmas dual portion of their schedule with a trip to Mount Pleasant for a non-conference triangular with the Panthers and Fort Madison Bloodhounds. The Golden Hawks won a dual and dropped a dual on the night. The Golden Hawks beat Mount Pleasant 45-34. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Owen Trimpe at 152 by fall, Ben Meader at 182 by fall, Josh Wallington at 220 by fall and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall.
Fort Madison was able to get by the Hawks 54-30. In the dual, Mid-Prairie had wins in contested matches from Mose Yoder at 113 by fall, Ben Meader at 182 by fall, and Cael Garvey at 195 by fall. Mid-Prairie is now into the Christmas break portion of their schedule with a 4-6 dual record. ....

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team is back in action Thursday when they travel to Mount Pleasant for a non-conference triangular against Fort Madison and the Panthers. The Golden Hawks come into the night with a 3-5 dual record on the season. Mid-Prairie was last in action on Saturday when they won the team title at the Colton Allen Memorial Tournament at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman by a half point over Alburnett, led by individual champions Cael Garvey at 195lbs and Josh Wallington at 220lbs. Mid-Prairie’s last dual action was a week ago at home where they fell to Monticello 46-36 and Iowa City Regina 39-36 in a River Valley triangular. ....

Mid-Prairie edges Alburnett for tournament title

For the second straight year, Mid-Prairie honored the memory of a former Golden Hawk wrestler at the Colton Allen Memorial tournament.
And for the first time, they did it with a championship.
“It felt amazing, I think everyone was screaming,” said Cael Garvey, who earlier stood on top of the podium after a first-place finish at 195 pounds.
“It means everything. It’s an amazing feeling to be up there for my friend and for my school.”
Josh Wallington also finished first at 220 pounds as Mid-Prairie edged Alburnett for the title with 104 points to 103.5.
“Last year we got second place in this tournament and this year to win it – It’s pretty exciting,” Mid-Prairie coach Justin Garvey said. ....
