For anyone who thinks the worst is behind us, i have an alarming visual that might make you think twice. Louisianas spike in new cases is rising to levels not seen since the winter surge. Thats right. It now has the highest rate of new cases per capita in the nation. Its hospitalizations have quadrupled, quadrupled in just the last three weeks. Rising cases. Rising hospitalizations. You know whats coming next, unfortunately rising numbers of dead. Unlike the holiday surge, this time we have the vaccines. All of this is preventible. it s nice to be with you this morning. the association of state and territorial health officials represents the leading health officials from each state and territory. and helps to convene information and serve as a bridge between the state health officials and health leaders in washington and helps communicate the pressing issues of the day. throughout the pandemic, the association has been very involved in crafting the guidance and making sure it makes sense not just from a policy level but on the ground where it gets implemented in the states. host: are you collecting data? guest: we review everything the cdc and fda put out in the states as well. host: do you try to tell federal officials what you are seeing on the ground before policies are made? guest: that s a big part of what the association does. we will routinely have calls with for example dr. walensky at the cdc or other officials. it s a good partnership. on the one hand you have the policy and on the other hand
decisions that fit our community, and for the selma community, this was the right decision and it s the right course moving forward. and here is the church leader out of georgia who is shutting down sunday s service, despite what the white house says. we re for our communities and we don t want to accidentally do something to our communities. and here is the local judge in texas who s taking over the county testing operation, because he can t wait any longer for the federal government to catch up. so it wasn t working at all. we re going to take it over. we re going to do those tests in two days or less. turn around in two days or less, and we appreciate the federal offer but i politely decline. they re stepping up, because they are left with no other option. clearly. considering that the president continues to say, we re in a good place, with taking on the virus. and continues to try to change the subject. remember? he went to go talk about infrastructure? but you
problem that disproportionately but not exclusively affects women. the military is struggling as hard as college campuses to figure out what to do about that and make a dent in it and encourage reporting, increase rates of successful prosecution, drive down the initial incidents of sexual assault and sexual harassment. it is the $64 million question in my sense. the military draws its members from society, and we see with the steubenville rate case, this is not a problem that is exclusive to the military, but i do find it concerning that if you compare rates of nonsexual assault, murder and other violent crimes within the military to those in a comparable civilian population, rates of other crimes in the military are much lower. a very small fraction. if the rate of sexual assault is the same as in civilian society it still shows something is wrong. something is not working if the rate of that party to the type of assault has not been driven down the same amount of other type
