Eight of the leading Democratic candidates running to become New York City mayor are scheduled to take part in the first televised debate of the campaign season on Thursday, May 13th. Broadcast on NY1 and WNYC from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the debate is the first of three that have been planned by the Campaign Finance Board.
Eric Adams, Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, Ray McGuire, Dianne Morales, Scott Stringer, Maya Wiley, and Andrew Yang will be participating. NY1’s Errol Louis will serve as a moderator, while WNYC s Brian Lehrer and The CITY’s Josefa Velasquez will join Louis as panelists. ....

Emails between de Blasio and top outside advisers who work for political consulting BerlinRosen, were released Thursday after DeBlasio spent months trying to keep them secret, arguing the consultants served as “agents of the city.”
He reversed course but only after a Manhattan appeals court ordered their release after NY1 sued.
As it turns out, he was only protecting his butt.
The 4,245 pages of emails make clear that from the early days of his arrival at City Hall, the de Blasio team was constantly seeking ways to manipulate the press and massage the mayor’s image.

NYC's First Official Democratic Mayoral Primary Debate Set for May 13

THE CITY is co-hosting the first Democratic mayoral primary debate of the 2021 elections on Thursday, May 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The debate is organized in partnership with the Campaign Finance Board (CFB), Spectrum News NY1, WNYC-Gothamist, Citizens Union, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Social Work Votes (Columbia School of Social Work & Latino Leadership Institute).
Candidates participating include: Eric Adams, Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, Ray McGuire, Dianne Morales, Scott Stringer, Maya Wiley and Andrew Yang. Candidates were invited to appear in this debate if they met the CFB’s criteria.
NY1’s Errol Louis will moderate the debate, which will be broadcast on NY1 and WNYC radio. ....
