well. a lot of moving parts as we head into thanksgiving week. today, though, public schools in san francisco, alameda, contra costa and marin counties were closed, as well as most of san mateo county. schools in the bay area s biggest city were open. a lot of parents and health experts wondering why. nbc bay area s damian trujillo joins us with the details. the experts tell us these schools actually serve as a shelter for kids. they say children are safer here. but some parents are not buying it. the children should be in school right now, instead, they re doing their homework at home on the kitchen table. we just decided to keep them at home. you know, because the air quality. there were many similar absences at alum rock schools today with parents preferring to take care of their children at home. the county superintendent says that s fine for parents who can afford to take a day off work. but the county leaders know many families don t have that luxury with chicare.
