Matteson Township rock throwing suspect enters into plea agreement

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Matteson Township man who was charged by prosecutors after a rock was thrown through a neighbor’s front door window last January entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
42-year-old Jonathan Vern Fleming entered a no contest plea to a charge of malicious destruction of property between $200 and $1,000.
In exchange for his plea, charges of felonious assault and malicious destruction of a building between $1,000 and $20,000 will be dismissed by prosecutors.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 23.

Matteson Twp man loses home in fire, charged in neighbor dispute


42-year-old Jonathan Vern Fleming is also accused of being a second time habitual offender.
He was booked at the Branch County Jail last Friday in connection with an alleged incident on January 15.
According to court documents, he was accused of throwing a rock through a neighbor’s front door window. The rock barely missed hitting a man inside who had ducked but it did cause about $1,200 worth of damage.
A warrant for Fleming’s arrest was issued last Wednesday.
The fire at Fleming’s home on Lyter Road broke out just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber reported a neighbor noticed the fire which had been burning for some time. Fire crews arrived to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames and partially collapsed from fire damage. No one was home at the time of the blaze. ....
