Outdoornews May 6, 2021 DISTRICT 1 CO Jared Ferguson was traveling south on M-95 when he encountered a motor vehicle traveling 95 mph in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. CO Ferguson was able to stop the vehicle and contact the driver. CO Ferguson asked the driver why he continued at a high rate of speed and didn’t slow down after seeing the patrol vehicle and he stated, “I didn’t think you guys could stop me for speeding, so I didn’t think anything of it.” A citation was issued for speeding. CO Shannon Kritz worked in conjunction with Wisconsin game wardens to patrol an area of the Menominee River where both states were receiving numerous snagging complaints. CO Kritz contacted one angler who was observed keeping a fish after it had been snagged on top of its head. The angler explained to CO Kritz that he thought he could keep fish as long as they were caught in front of the gill plate. CO Kritz informed the angler that fish have to be retained in the mou ....
MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES Feb. 21-March 6 PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY COs Jon Sklba and Paul Fox discovered a pop-up shanty with tip-ups set and nobody around on Black Lake in Presque Isle County. The COs waited at the shanty for the subject to return. After a long wait no one arrived, so COs went looking for the subject. The COs were able to track the subject to a cabin. The subject denied being gone long, yet he answered the door in a t-shirt and the tires on his side-by-side had time to dry. The subject had also been fishing without a license. Tickets were issued for the violations. ....
MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES Nov. 15-28 MONTMORENCY COUNTY CO Sidney Collins received a complaint in Montmorency County of a stolen tractor implement off a cabin property. The property owner had pictures of the subject stealing the item. After some investigation, the subject was identified as a local logger. COs Collins and Dan Liestenfeltz interviewed the subject who claimed he was on the property to retrieve his dog. CO Collins showed the subject the picture of him taking the item to which he then admitted to stealing the item off the property. The subject retrieved the item off his property and the COs returned the item back to the victims. Charges were submitted to the prosecutor’s office. ....
