WHEELING Ohio County commissioners made changes to the Ohio County Development Authority Board Tuesday night, replacing two members and appointing two others to take their places. One of those removed, though, said she was unaware she was being replaced. OCDA Vice President Nancy Weeks a member since the OCDA was formed in 2007 was the first removal from the board. She will be replaced by Del. Erikka Storch, R-Ohio, also president of the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce. ....

WHEELING Local fire and emergency departments now won’t need to send members out of the area to get EMT and paramedic training. West Virginia Northern Community College announced Wednesday it has received a $500,000 grant from the West Virginia Community and Technical College System to offer EMT and paramedic training on all three of its campuses Wheeling, New Martinsville and Weirton. There are presently no regular programs of study for paramedics offered in the Northern Panhandle. Those aspiring to be paramedics had to travel to Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia, or take a class at Belmont College in St. Clairsville when they were available. ....

WHEELING Fire hydrants in Ohio County are in need of regular maintenance, and that is a concern for the county’s fire chiefs. Valley Grove Fire Chief John Gearry, also the new president of the Ohio County Fire Chiefs Association, addressed county commissioners Tuesday night on the issue of making sure the county’s hydrants operate properly. The Ohio County Public Service District oversees 624 fire hydrants and “at least 20 are absolutely not working,” according to Commission President Randy Wharton. ....
