Through tops and starts, eventually sacramento was chosen in 1854 to be the State Capitol and construction on this building started in about 1860. It took about 14 years to complete, as is the case with a lot of State Capitols around the country. The civil war era brought a lot of stops and starts. It went through a seismic two year test
