A Rochester Hills woman has been inducted into the Society of Mayflower Descendants in Michigan after her children helped trace their ancestry back to an original passenger on the historic ship.
Linda J. Coyle Avedian, a retired employee of the Rochester Community School District, and her family were able to find enough documentation from the past four centuries to prove their ancestry this winter.
Itâs been a four year journey with hundreds of hours spent pouring over documents in libraries from coast to coast.

Avedian was able to trace her heritage back to her 9th great-grandfather George Soule, who arrived on the Mayflower near Plymouth, Massachusetts in November 1620. He was one of 41 adult men who signed the Mayflower Compact to create a form of self-governance among the pilgrims.
