Lloyd Misses Out On Finals Spot In NCAA Outdoor Championships Spread the love National 100m female record holder Joella Lloyd could not secure a finals spot in the recently concluded NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. Running last Thursday in the second semi-finals of three for the University of Tennessee, Lloyd could not qualify for the women’s 100m finals as she ran a time of 11.68 seconds, a significantly slower time than her season’s best of 11.19 to finish seventh in the race. Only the top two from each of the three races automatically qualified for the finals, while the next best three times out of all three semi-final races earn a finals spot. ....

Lloyd finishes fifth at SEC Championships By Carlena Knight National female sprinter Joella Lloyd finished fifth in the finals of the women’s 100m dash on Saturday at the 2021 SEC Championships in Bryan-College Station, Texas. The University of Tennessee standout and national 100m record holder had previously advanced to the 100m finals after running a time of 11.45 seconds to place second in the second of three heats. She finished behind Louisiana State University’s (LSU) Symone Mason (11.34 seconds). Despite having claimed the SEC short sprint (60m) title during the indoor season, Lloyd could not make it two in a row, finishing in a time of 11.25 seconds in the finals for fifth. ....

‘I can qualify for the Olympics’ Lloyd Sprint queen Joella Lloyd said she still has her eyes set on qualifying for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Lloyd, running at home at the Tennessee Challenge on Saturday, for the University of Tennessee sped across the line in a time of 11.19secs, just four seconds off from the Olympic qualifying standard of 11.15. She noted that with just a few tweaks here and there, she is confident that she can make the time and become the second athlete from Antigua and Barbuda to qualify for the Olympics. “I would say I would need to improve on my 100m start because my end and the transition is fine but once I can get the start down, I believe I can make the qualifying time,” Lloyd said. ....
