Lloyd Breaks 28-year-old National Record; O’Garro Records New Personal Best Joella Lloyd has broken the Women’s National 100m record. Running at home at the Tennessee Challenge on Saturday, the Lady Vols standout recovered from a slow start to overtake fast starting compatriot, Maia McCoy, speeding cross the line in 11.19 seconds. Lloyd has now dethroned former National record holder and Director of Sports, Heather Samuel-Daley who set the 11.20 time in May 1993 – 9 years before Lloyd was born. “I was both surprised and relieved when I looked back at the clock. My previous personal time was 11.43 and I was amazed to see it drop by 0.24 seconds. I’ve been putting in a lot of effort in training so it was a relief to see it finally paying off,” Lloyd said. ....
National sprinter captures first place over the weekend Just one day after sprint queen Joella Lloyd broke the 28-year-national 100m female record, another Antiguan and Barbudan track star has made headlines. On Sunday, the reigning Sportsman of the Year, Cejhae Greene, finished atop the Men’s 100m dash at the Pure Athletics Sprint Elite meet in the US, clocking a time of 10.02secs. That time saw him edge out former World champion and Jamaican track star Yohan Blake in the finals. Both competitors were close crossing the line that officials had to use thousandths of a second to determine a winner giving Greene the edge with a 10.016 breakdown over Blake’s 10.019. ....
National high jumper praises fellow track stars for stellar performances Spread the love National high jumper Cejhae Greene. Greene, thus far, is the only Antiguan Barbudan athlete to qualify for the Tokyo Summer Olympics this year. He ran a time of 10.01seconds, which at the time, was the world leading 100-meter time for men. A week later, Greene would finish third in a star-studded line-up which included former Olympic champion, Justin Gatlin. Frederick-Loomis, who is also a close friend of Greene commended the 25-year-old on his recent success. Joella Lloyd Cejhae Greene “I was so hype. Athletics association targets June nationals, says Cornelius Spread the love By Neto Baptiste The Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA) has targeted a date in June for the staging of its first senior National Track & Field Championships since 2016. This was revealed by president of the organisation, Everton Cornelius, who said the association is working hard to put on the competition following a five-year hiatus. “We are looking at June 19 and 20 and we are watching to see how things pan out and see if we could really have our nationals because we are trying really hard to have it. We are also going to start to have some development meets, maybe, in the next week or two so we could start looking at our athletes,” he said. ....
