44yearold Gerald Villabrille jr. Called 911 wanting to negotiate after police fired tear gas into the russellville house he had broken into and barricaded himself into. Initially he said he had a hostage. We evaluated that information. We determined it was not true. It all began 1 30 in the afternoon when investigators say a Fremont Police officer pulled over a stolen truck that villabrille was driving. Theyym say he rammed the truck into the patrol car and started shooting. Our first officer was critically injured. The suspect took off running and investigators say he shot a second fremontjov Police Office before barricading himself inside the house. It was a crazy night, a crazy night. They say were still in the process of trying to find someone who is going to be the permanent replacement for former chief jackson. This is a city thats gone through a lot of turmoil. The whole world knows it. I suspect its been a difficult search. This is a place where whoever comes in is going to have a lot to deal with not only with the community trying to gain their trust but also with the city council trying to gain its trust. So its going to be a very difficult position to be in. We do know that theres an announcement thats coming up very quickly. We hope to hear more details about this new interim chief. I asked specifically is this going to be the permanent person and the answer back to me was no. So were going to have to wait and see. ....
By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE The Trussville City Council met on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, and approved a draft of an agreement with the school system on facility usage. The reciprocal use agreement with Trussville City Schools gives Mayor Buddy Choat the directive to oversee the implementation of and compliance with the agreement. The agreement states that schools have priority use of school facilities and the city has priority use of city facilities. However, the two entities would agree to “memorialize their longstanding informal reciprocal use agreement in writing to facilitate better understanding of each party’s role in the continued relationship between the parties and to organize, to promote, and to conduct programs and activities that further the education, health and general welfare of the community,” as part of the agreement. ....
